Rokka no Yuusha

An ancient legend states that with the revival of the Demon God, six heroes—the Braves of the Six Flowers—will be chosen by the Goddess of Fate, granting them power to rise up against the fiends attempting to turn the world into a living hell. Adlet Mayer, self-proclaimed "Strongest Man in the World," has arrived at the continent of Piena in hopes of becoming a Brave. Although it doesn't go as smoothly as he had planned, Adlet is ultimately chosen as one of the six heroes shortly after being greeted by Nashetania Loei Piena Augustra, crown princess and fellow Brave.

Rokka no Yuusha follows the two as they embark upon their destined journey to fight the Demon God, intending to meet up with their fellow heroes at a small temple outside of the Land of the Howling Demons, the fiends' domain. However, when they finally unite, seven heroes are present, and soon the others begin to suspect Adlet to be a fraud. Now on the run, Adlet must utilize his unique skill set and wit in a fight for his life to identify which member of the group is the true impostor before it's too late!

Cocky anime Batman. What's not to like?

MC tells us in <10 minutes he's the strongest, and we immediately see him beat a bunch of mob guards and two top warriors, but instead of some stupidly OP ability or unbelievable strength, he just uses a utility belt packed with poisoned lego, flash grenades, Greek fire (?), and occasionally a simple short sword.

The animation is pretty decent. There is some CGI here and there, but it's not as terrible as in most modern series, it's relatively well-integrated (especially for an older series). The fight scenes are surprisingly well-done.

Speaking of things I didn't notice... the OST. Didn't stand ... out so I can't comment on it. Then again, this means that it's not terrible or I would've noticed.

Unlike other great anime where every rewatch gives you a chance to observe something new that you might not have noticed or missed previously (hello Steins;Gate!), this one doesn't do that. Or at least I didn't notice. In my opinion, a good mystery should not make the answer obvious before the end, and this one doesn't. However, after the answer is given, you should be able to look back and realize why the answer makes sense, notice clues, and maybe see why it couldn't have been any other way, but in this series none of this happens.

The first time I watched it was close to when it came out, and I'm now 8/12 in the rewatch. Regarding the first time, I remember liking the start a lot but then getting bored with the mystery parts. Since this is a rewatch, having knowledge of what happens at the end (even if I didn't remember all the details), the mystery aspect isn't there anymore, so I can enjoy the action and (admittedly short) story, hence the 8/10 rating. If I were to think of this as a primarily mystery series, I'd probably be disappointed and rate it somewhere between 4 and 6.

Mixed Feelings

Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers follows chosen heroes of the same number on their quest to vanquish an evil that threatens their world. This is a genuine fantasy setting with unique worldbuilding, but featuring an interestingly confounding twist. The mystery is developed and incorporated into the story well, character motivations and changes in perspective make sense, and the details to piece together information are present throughout the anime. The multiple openings and endings were also a nice touch. Unfortunately, besides the fluctuating animation quality, the setup for the second season ruins some aspects. And worse yet, the anime and light novels are indefinitely abandoned.

Plot inconsistency, had to dig out the novel because the anime was absolutely horrible. Lo and behold, the novel was worse. The continuities were destroyed, it seems that the author failed to keep track of what happened in the past. It seems like work after work was written for the sake of publishing another book under the command of the publisher than to produce something with quality. This series is a disgrace to literary. I finished the anime and till now can't forget the atrocity of this show. The premise and hook was so promising until every episode dug a bigger grave for itself. They ... failed to make a lot of the mystery make sense. If you prefer action, just go watch a better action anime and if you prefer mystery, just go watch another mystery anime. This show butchered it on all fronts.

Heck, the author even gave up on the light novel because they knew what they did. It was utter BS. 6 volumes of garbage, and please do not make another season because you can't fix all the plotholes you created in season 1. Also if they decide to continue the novel's development, it will get even trashier (I wouldn't recommend you reading it because it hurts, I did it, and I wouldn't suggest anyone else to go through the pain). I want my time back from this garbage.
