Peaceful schoolgirl by day, fearsome monster slayer by night, Saya Kisaragi is leading a split life. Equipped with a ceremonial sword given to her by her father for sacred tasks, she vanquishes every monster who dares threaten her quiet little village. But all too soon, Saya's reality and everything she believes to be true is tested, when she overhears the monsters speak of a broken covenant—something she knows nothing about. And then, unexpectedly, a strange dog appears; it asks her to whom she promised to protect the village, curious as to what would happen if she were to break that promise. Blood-C is one of those shows you don’t just watch, you feel. It starts like a harmless slice of life, soft and almost fake in its calm, then slowly rips that world apart until you’re left staring at pure chaos. It’s beautiful, cruel, and hypnotic all at once. The real heart of it all is the MC Saya Kisaragi. She isn’t just a protagonist, she’s a contradiction in motion. Her politeness, her smiles, her almost mechanical perfection… all of it hides a deep, aching confusion. When the truth hits, she doesn’t simply break, she awakens. There’s tragedy in her strength and elegance in her rage. ... Saya is written like a mirror of pain: distant, but too human to ignore. Visually, Blood-C is art through brutality, every drop of blood, every cut, every silent pause serves rhythm and emotion. It’s not about realism; it’s about impact. It’s flawed on paper, but emotionally? It’s flawless. Blood-C is the kind of series that doesn’t beg to be understood, it demands to be felt. And if you do, it’s not just good. It’s a 10.

Mixed Feelings

It's a strange anime from beginning to end.

A long time ago I watched the first four episodes and ended up abandoning it. At the time I found it extremely boring and monotonous, and I simply couldn't continue. Recently I decided to give it a second chance and finally watch it all the way through, but unfortunately my opinion hasn't changed much from the beginning.

The first four episodes continue to be a big problem. They are extremely drawn out, repetitive, and practically devoid of relevant events. The structure repeats itself almost identically: school routine, some interactions of little importance, and, in the end, a fight against ... some monster. This ends up making the beginning of the anime very predictable and tiresome. I even understand that these episodes serve to build the necessary context for the final twist of the story, but honestly, that doesn't justify a quarter of the season being so uninteresting.

The narrative itself doesn't help much either. The story takes too long to really present anything significant and, when it finally starts to reveal its cards, we're practically at the end of the anime. This makes the overall development seem poorly utilized. There is indeed a significant plot twist at the end, which changes how we perceive certain events, but because the build-up to that point is weak and unengaging, the impact ends up being less than it could be.

Despite all this, my rating wasn't as low as it could have been. I gave it a 6, but curiously, this has less to do with the story and more to do with another aspect of the work: the gore.

The graphic violence present in the anime is truly absurd. It's difficult to remember many anime that have such an explicit level of violence. The anime doesn't hold back in showing blood, limbs being torn off, mutilated bodies, and very grotesque scenes. For those who enjoy this type of heavier and more visceral content, this will probably be the main attraction of the work. At various points, the brutality of the scenes draws more attention than any narrative element.

In my case, that's precisely what held my attention until the end. It wasn't the story, which only gains some relevance closer to the end, but rather the curiosity to see how far the anime would go with its level of violence and visual exaggeration. In that sense, it truly delivers something different from what is usually seen in many anime.

Even so, it's difficult to ignore the work's structural problems. The pacing is too slow at the beginning, the plot development is poorly distributed, and many episodes seem to exist only to repeat the same formula. When the story finally tries to delve deeper and explain what is really happening, there is no longer enough time to explore everything satisfactorily.

In the end, it's an anime that might be worthwhile for those looking for something more shocking, brutal, and full of graphic violence. However, those expecting a well-developed story, interesting characters, or an engaging narrative will likely be disappointed.

É um anime estranho do começo ao fim.

Há muito tempo atrás eu assisti os quatro primeiros episódios e acabei abandonando a obra. Na época achei extremamente chata e monótona, e simplesmente não consegui continuar. Recentemente decidi dar uma segunda chance e finalmente assistir tudo até o final, mas infelizmente minha opinião não mudou muito em relação ao início.

Os quatro primeiros episódios continuam sendo um grande problema. Eles são extremamente arrastados, repetitivos e praticamente sem acontecimentos relevantes. A estrutura se repete quase da mesma forma: rotina escolar, algumas interações sem grande importância e, no final, uma luta contra algum monstro. Isso acaba deixando o começo do anime muito previsível e cansativo. Eu até entendo que esses episódios servem para construir o contexto necessário para a reviravolta final da história, mas sinceramente isso não justifica um quarto da temporada sendo tão desinteressante.

A narrativa em si também não ajuda muito. A história demora demais para realmente apresentar algo significativo e, quando finalmente começa a revelar suas cartas, já estamos praticamente no final do anime. Isso faz com que o desenvolvimento geral pareça mal aproveitado. Existe sim uma reviravolta importante no final, que muda a forma como enxergamos certos acontecimentos, mas como a construção até esse ponto é fraca e pouco envolvente, o impacto acaba sendo menor do que poderia ser.

Apesar de tudo isso, minha nota não foi tão baixa quanto poderia ser. Dei um 6, mas curiosamente isso não tem tanto a ver com a história, e sim com outro aspecto da obra: o gore.

A violência gráfica presente no anime é realmente absurda. É difícil lembrar de muitos animes que tenham um nível de violência tão explícito quanto este. O anime não economiza em mostrar sangue, membros sendo arrancados, corpos mutilados e cenas bem grotescas. Para quem gosta desse tipo de conteúdo mais pesado e visceral, provavelmente esse será o principal atrativo da obra. Em vários momentos a brutalidade das cenas chama mais atenção do que qualquer elemento narrativo.

No meu caso, foi justamente isso que acabou prendendo minha atenção até o final. Não foi a história, que só ganha alguma relevância mais perto do encerramento, mas sim a curiosidade em ver até onde o anime iria com seu nível de violência e exagero visual. Nesse sentido, ele realmente entrega algo diferente do que se costuma ver em muitos animes.

Ainda assim, é difícil ignorar os problemas estruturais da obra. O ritmo é lento demais no começo, o desenvolvimento da trama é mal distribuído e muitos episódios parecem existir apenas para repetir a mesma fórmula. Quando finalmente a história tenta se aprofundar e explicar o que realmente está acontecendo, já não há tempo suficiente para explorar tudo de forma satisfatória.

No fim das contas, é um anime que pode até valer a pena para quem procura algo mais chocante, brutal e cheio de violência gráfica. Porém, quem espera uma história bem desenvolvida, personagens interessantes ou uma narrativa envolvente provavelmente vai se decepcionar.

Not gonna lie, I went into Blood-C expecting something solid. I’m usually all for gore and intense fight scenes, and yeah, those parts actually delivered—especially toward the end. The final stretch was the only time it really got my attention, mainly because of the chaos, the bloodbath, and how brutal things got.

But man, everything before that? Just a struggle to sit through. The story felt all over the place, like it was trying to be deep or mysterious but ended up being confusing and flat. I found myself skipping through most of the convos, just waiting for something to happen. Honestly, I don’t even fully ... get what the plot was trying to do, and I gave up trying after a while.

The animation didn’t help either—some of it looked rough, even lazy in parts. Which is a shame, because the concept had potential, and the main character was actually kind of interesting. If they focused more on that and less on... whatever the first 80% of the show was, this could’ve been a banger.

In the end, I watched it for the fights and the gore, and that’s about it.
