Ingredients 
 • 1. Soaked arhar Dal/ pigeon pea - 1/2 cup
 • 2. Onion chopped - 1
 • 3. Tomato chopped - 1
 • 4. Garlic cloves - 5
 • 5. Ginger - 1/2 inch 
 • 6. Green chilli - 1
 • 7. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
 • 8. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
 • 9. Red chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
 • 10. Salt to taste 
 • 11. Ghee - 1 tbsp
 • 12. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

13. Curry leaves - 2 small strings

Method
 • To boil the dal
 • 1. In a pressure cooker add 1 cup water, a pinch of salt & a pinch of turmeric powder. Close the cooker & after 2 whistles have come, switch off the gas. Let the dal sit & steam, meanwhile prepare your tadka. 
 • 2. Take a pan and add the ghee, once thats done. Add mustard seeds & curry leaves. Once the seeds start to pop add the onion & cook until transparent.

Maharashtrian Amti dal is a spicy, sweet and sour dal made from toor/arhar dal.
Goda masala and okum add a lovely flavour and aroma to the dal. Enjoy it hot with boiled rice and pickle.

Ingredients-
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Kokum- 20 grams
Sugar- 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves- 10
Coriander leaves- 2 tbsp
Green chilli - 1
Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
Water - 5 cups
Toor dal- 1 cup
Garlic cloves- 4
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Ghee- 2 tbsp
Hing - 1/4 tsp
Goda masala (Maharashtrian spice mix) - 3 tsp
Tomato- 2
Salt- 2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
