Sarp Mateson has announced the release of NebiOS 10.2, an updated build of the project's Ubuntu-based desktop Linux distribution with a custom-built NebiOS Wayland compositor (based on Wayfire). This release brings changes to napp-runtime, the NebiOS App Runtime application format, and the distribution's software repository called Bundle Store: "NebiOS X 10.2 update is now available. The biggest change in this release is the full rewrite of both Bundle Store and napp-runtime. Most of napp-runtime's codebase has been moved to Python and compiled with Nuitka, just like other NebiOS userspace components. Along with that, several critical changes landed: security - a manifest signing and verification system using Ed25519 and SHA256 has been added; performance - cold-start time dropped by roughly half, from 400–500ms down to 200–300ms; binary cache - previously located under /Applications/.My_App, now moved to ~/.cache/napp-runtime/binaries; no sandbox mode - for applications verified by the system repository, you can now bypass the bwrap isolation layer and run them directly at the system level; NINF 2.0 - application identifiers and configurations now natively use NINF 2.0; out-of-store installation - launchers are now created automatically...." Daniil Baturin has announced the release of version 2026.02 of VyOS Stream, a community edition of the project's enterprise-grade, open-source networking platform for bare metal, cloud and edge, based on Debian's "Stable" branch. The new release features various feature enhancements and bug fixes: "VyOS Stream 2026.02 is available for download now. It features multiple backports from the rolling release, including TLS support for syslog, NAT66 source groups, IPFIX support in VPP, FRR and VPP updates, and over fifty bug fixes. It also makes the VPP configuration subsystem use DPDK as the default driver for NICs that support it and fall back to XDP automatically if needed — there is no need to and no option to configure the driver by hand anymore. VyOS no longer allows multicast addresses to be assigned to interfaces. Previously, something like set interfaces ethernet eth0 address 224.0.0.100/24 was a valid configuration commands. Now the CLI will reject it and configs with such addresses will fail to load. While Linux kernel and iproute2 allow manually assigning multicast addresses, allowing that in the VyOS CLI was an oversight - such configurations will never work for their intended purposes. For multicast traffic to actually work, hosts need to join multicast groups using IGMP." Read the rest of the release announcement for further information. The Clonezilla Live project has announced the release of a new stable version, 3.3.1-35, which is based on Debian's "Unstable" branch. "Enhancements and changes since 3.3.0-33: the underlying GNU/Linux operating system has been upgraded, this release is based on the Debian 'Sid' repository as of 2026-02-20; The Linux kernel has been updated to 6.18.9; Partclone has been updated to 0.3.45; implemented mechanisms for cloning 4kn disks to 512n/e disks and 512n/e disks to 4kn disks; improved functions do_ntfs_512to4k_fix and do_ntfs_4kto512_fix by updating Total Sectors (Offset 40) for NTFS; added a new program, ocs-pt-512-4k-convert, to convert 512B to 4kn partition tables; rewrote ocs-expand-gpt-pt to be more robust, including 512B to 4kn conversion if mismatched sectors are detected; added a mechanism to change the master key from a LUKS header; rewrote ocs-get-nic-fw-lst to retrieve firmware lists directly from Linux kernel modules; added two more info files in image dir - fdisk.list and blkdev.json; included makeboot64.cmd instead of makeboot64.bat in the live system; improved BitLocker support - partitions now work on the clone server (ocs-onthefly), and the system now prompts for passwords again if entered incorrectly." Tomáš Kelemen has announced the release of Lakka 6.1, a major new version of the project's LibreELEC-based Linux distribution that transforms a computer into a full-blown retro-gaming console. This release updates the RetroArch user interface to version 1.22.2 and the Linux kernel to version 6.18.7: "A long-awaited new version of Lakka is finally here. After the release of Lakka 5.0 in April 2024, we took our time to modernize the base system, refresh the entire core ecosystem, and introduce several highly requested features. Today, we're excited to present Lakka 6.1 - our biggest update in years. Lakka 6.1 is now built on the LibreELEC 12.2 build system, bringing a modernized foundation, improved hardware support, and updated drivers across the board. The developers of OmegaLinux have announced a brand new release, version 2026.02.21. Formerly based on Lubuntu, the new version is a complete rebuild of the project's lightweight Linux distribution, now based on Arch Linux. It continues using the LXDE desktop, making it suitable for installation on low-end hardware and older computers with as little as 1 GB or memory and 15 GB of storage space. "OmegaLinux NEXT Deep Blue Sea - the 'Goodbye Lubuntu/Ubuntu' release. New OmegaLinux release, the biggest one and we even moved bases. Changelog (updated 22 february 2026): rebased from scratch to Arch Linux, no longer Ubuntu base, this means OmegaLinux 2.x (and maybe 3.x) would get instant end of life; design and branding overhaul - a little bit skeumorphic (especially in icons); now since its rolling-release it will always get the newest updates of packages; there wasn't too much changelog but the fact that it's rebased on Arch Linux really makes it really big; Soil's facility (own server) - not yet." The UBports project has announced updates for the mobile distributions 20.04 and 24.04 branches. The new updates, labeled OTA-12, improve the stability of VoLTE connections, fixes some issues with dual-SIM devices, and deleted on-line accounts no longer linger in the Calendar application. "Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 is a maintenance release of 24.04-1.x series. This release contains mostly bug fixes and small improvements. The notable ones are: Booting Ubuntu Touch on Sony Xperia X has been broken since Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0. It is now fixed, extending life to this old device. Improves mobile data stability when VoLTE is active on some carrier. Fixes receiving "cell broadcast" messages on multiple devices. Fixes deleting online accounts leaving calendars behind in Calendar app. Fixes switching mobile data SIM on some dual-SIM devices. Further fixes for importing .ics calendar event files. The NuTyX distribution has published a new version, 26.02.2, which switches the default init software from SysV to systemd. "Spiky and me are happy to announce the new version of NuTyX 26.02.2 and cards 3.4.3. SysV is at the end of its life, only one initialization system - systemd; switching from SysV to systemd without reinstalling is not a good idea; NuTyX SysV maintained until the end of 2026; three ISO image graphics - Xfce, GNOME and KDE; one basic non-graphic ISO image for professionals. After nearly 19 years, NuTyX slowly abandoned the SysV init system developed more than 40 years ago (1983). This means concretely that only the following packages will continue to receive updates until December 2026: the Linux kernels, note that Linux kernels 5.10, 5.15, 6.6 and 6.12 also come to the end of their lives in December 2026; Firefox and Thunderbird; Discord and Telegram; Xfce 4.20; security updates. Now, the distribution focuses on a single init system - systemd. The two main desktops, GNOME and KDE, will soon no longer be operational under SysV." The project's release announcement recommends performing a fresh install of NuTyX to handle the migration from SysV to systemd. The SparkyLinux project has announced the release of SparkyLinux 8.2, a snapshot update of the project's Stable branch. "There is the second update available for Sparky 8 - 8.2. This is a quarterly update of the Sparky 8 Seven Sisters stable release. Sparky 8 is based on and fully compatible with Debian 13 Trixie. The KaOS distribution has traditionally focused on providing one desktop (KDE Plasma), desktop tools built using one toolkit (Qt), for one CPU architecture (x86_64). This mission is being adjusted with a move away from the Plasma desktop: "You will not find Plasma or Kwin on this ISO, though KaOS has always been a KDE Plasma only distribution. Instead, you will find a niri/Noctalia based system. For those wondering why this change, it has come into play because of a desire to move away from systemd. Work is ongoing to see if a move to Dinit is viable for this distribution, that also meant, looking for an alternative to Plasma, since Plasma pretty much demands systemd, and will be fully mandatory soon. This ISO still uses systemd fully though. Trials to use niri with the Noctalia shell have proven to be a nice option. Using these means, KaOS can stay a Qt focused distribution. This ISO is still GTK free, still ships Qt/KDE based applications. The change for this ISO however doesn't mean it is permanent. Plasma 6 is still fully available in the repositories. Using an ISO though for wider testing and gauging general response for such a move, was deemed a needed option." Additional details are provided in the release announcement. Lenny Zeltser has announced the release of REMnux 8, a major update of the project's Ubuntu-based Linux distribution featuring a curated collection of free reverse-engineering and malicious software analysis tools: "REMnux 8 is now available. It's a free, open-source Linux toolkit with over 200 tools for analyzing malicious software. You can run it as a virtual machine, a docker container, or install it onto an existing system. I released the first version of REMnux in 2010 to package the utilities I needed for teaching malware analysis and to share the toolkit with the community. Fifteen years and eight major releases later, the toolkit continues to evolve in step with malware trends and analysts' needs. The most notable change in REMnux 8 is the support for AI-assisted malware analysis. The new REMnux MCP server connects AI agents to the distro's tools with practitioner guidance built in. The toolkit's documented tools and predictable interfaces also make it particularly useful to AI agents. The updated documentation includes a new 'Use Artificial Intelligence' tool category that lists OpenCode as a terminal-based AI coding agent, GhidrAssistMCP for AI-assisted reverse engineering in Ghidra, and the r2ai and decai plugins for Radare2." Super Grub2 Disk
Super Grub2 Disk is a live CD that helps the user to boot into almost any operating system even if the system cannot boot into it by normal means. This allows a user to boot into an installed operating system if their GRUB installation has been overwritten, erased or otherwise corrupted. Super Grub2 Disk can detect installed operating systems and provide a boot menu which allows the user to boot into their desired operating system. Super Grub2 Disk is not an operating system itself, but a live boot loader which can be run from a CD or USB thumb drive.
