Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I installed this OS into my 14 year old laptop ( i5-2450m CPU, 6GB ram,)....on a USB thumb drive as HDD.

and then I bundle it up with several obviously useful apps... Libra office suite, bleachbit, transmission, synaptic, gthumb, shotwell, foxit pdf, pdfarranger, vlcplayer,..etc

Here are what I observed...
- by choosing Ubuntu LTS means solid, stable, and easy to use for the general public like me.
- original apps come with the OS is considerably basic,
- lxde is fast but not as fast as jwm. for old pc, jwm de is highly recommended.
- the menu shows lacking as I move the cursor over the menu area.
- it takes quite sometimes to upgrade and to install additional apps. (I used commend line to execute the upgrade, and used synaptic to install various apps)

it shows the Omega team knew want they are intended to do with this OS ... simple, basic, and adequate for old pc. but still have space for improvement. looking forward to test for newer version.
