Joseph H. Gale was an Article I federal judge for the United States Tax Court. Gale joined the court in 1996 after a nomination from President Bill Clinton. After his first 15-year term he was reappointed to the court by President Barack Obama.[1][2] Gale assumed senior status on August 26, 2023, and retired from the court on September 30, 2024.[3]

Education

Gale earned his A.B. from Princeton University in 1976, majoring in philosophy. He earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1980.[2]

Tax Court

Gale was nominated to the United States Tax Court by President Bill Clinton and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate. He joined the court on February 6, 1996. His term ended in 2011 and he was reappointed on October 18, 2011, by President Barack Obama.[2] Gale assumed senior status on August 26, 2023, and retired from the court on September 30, 2024.[3]
