Berle Schiller
Berle Schiller is a federal judge serving on senior status for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 2000 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. He assumed senior status on June 18, 2012.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Schiller graduated from Bowdoin College with his bachelor's degree in 1965 and obtained his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1968.[1]
Professional career
Schiller was a private practice attorney in Pennsylvania from 1968 to 1969 and again from 1972 to 1993. Schiller was Deputy Attorney General for the Pennsylvania Department of Justice in 1971 before serving as Chief Counsel for the Federal Transit Administration from 1994 to 1996. Schiller was appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, where he served as an appellate judge from 1996 to 2000.[1]
Judicial career
Eastern District of Pennsylvania
Schiller was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by President Bill Clinton on April 11, 2000 to a seat vacated by Robert Gawthrop.Schiller was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 24, 2000 on a Senate vote and received commission on June 2, 2000.[2] He assumed senior status on June 18, 2012.
