20th Television have dropped yet another teaser for Alien: Earth, their upcoming sci-fi horror series that will serve as a prequel to the first film in the franchise, revealing what happened back home on Earth two years before the events of the 1979 movie.
While we don't have an official premiere date, the series is slated to debut this Summer on FX on Hulu domestically and Disney+ via Star internationally. Also, with the Super Bowl right around the corner, there's a very real possibility that a full-length trailer could debut during the annual event, especially considering the Big Game is airing on Fox.
Plot details remain relatively under wraps, but the basic premise is as follows, "When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat."

At long last, the first look at Noah Hawley’s upcoming “Alien” series has arrived. The highly anticipated “Alien: Earth” will premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025.
“In 2020, Mother Earth is expecting,” a voiceover in the first teaser says. After showing an image of Earth moving and morphing, the camera then pans down to the darkness below the planet to reveal a Xenomorph. As the creature screams, the teaser cuts to a staticky transmission before revealing the name of this upcoming sci-fi thriller.

Forget all about Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Rafe Spall and co. That lot are yesterday’s chip paper. The stars of the 2011 One Day film have been superseded by this new bunch, now bringing David Nicholls’ hit 2009 romance novel to life for a new 14-episodes Netflix series. Adapted by Wild Rose and Three Girls screenwriter Nicole Taylor, One Day is a bittersweet love story set across two decades. It’s the story of Emma and Dexter, whose first night together at their university graduation sparks almost two decades of will-they-won’t-they romance.

Why do we find murder mysteries so uniquely relaxing? This is one of the age-old questions about human nature, up there with ‘what is consciousness?’ and ‘why do we keep eating mouldy cheese and fish eggs like it’s a good thing?’ Because, despite the grief and blood and mountains of paperwork that a gruesome murder causes, we simply can’t get enough of curling up on the sofa with a mug of tea and a cosy crime drama to keep us blissfully entertained all the way through to bedtime.
This isn’t a new thing, either: while modern series like Death in Paradise and Shakespeare and Hathaway are the current champions of cosy crime TV, back in the eighties and nineties classics like Murder She Wrote and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates taught us how it’s done. So whether you’re after the latest in the cosy crime genre or some more nostalgic viewing,...

Exclusive: FX’s Alien series has started production in Thailand but without its stars who are SAG-AFTRA members due to the ongoing strike.
So far, Sydney Chandler is the only officially confirmed cast member, playing the female lead. Deadline can reveal that Alex Lawther, known for his starring role in Netflix’s young adult drama The End of the F*cking World, has been cast as the male lead, a soldier named Cj, with Samuel Blenkin (Black Mirror) as another main character, Boy Kavalier, a CEO. Additional cast members include Essie Davis as Dame Silvia and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) as Slightly.
The deals for the actors were made well before the SAG-AFTRA strike started July 14, and those who are members of the American union are not currently in Thailand working on Alien, which is an Equity production, sources tell Deadline.

Knives Out totally revitalized the whodunnit genre, but despite the long wait between Benoit Blanc mysteries, there are plenty of shows like Knives Out to fill the gap. Somehow, Knives Out manages to take one of the most enduringly popular narratives--a locked-room murder that is solved by a brilliant detective--and make it fresh, exciting, and new. A lot of this stems both from Rian Johnson's direction and its cast, which is an embarrassment of riches and features some of the finest actors and actresses working in Hollywood.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery received a limited theatrical run and is available to stream on Netflix. The much-anticipated sequel is just as good if not better than the first movie, and Daniel Craig's return as detective Benoit Blanc is wholly satisfying. Unfortunately, the problem is that it's so good and there's little else on the movie landscape like it,...

Australian actor Essie Davis is best known for The Babadook, Game of Thrones, and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. This year, she stunned me with two incredible performances in two powerful films. In Nitram, directed by her husband Justin Kurzel, she plays the important and heartbreaking supporting role of Helen, opposite Caleb Landry Jones. In The Justice of Bunny King she broke my heart again, this time playing the house-less titular character who is desperately trying to get her kids out of foster care. It was made pre-pandemic and had a staggered release last year overseas. Look for it in select […]

HBO Max has unveiled the first trailer for “Julia,” an upcoming series about the life of beloved culinary icon Julia Child.
Created by Daniel Goldfarb (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), “Julia” focuses on Child (played in the series by Sarah Lancashire) during the years following the publication of her iconic cookbook “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” The series sees Child kickstarting her first television series, “The French Chef,” at the public television station Wgbh. Child faces opposition from the sexist and elitist producers at the station, but with the help of her friends and allies, transforms her television show into a certified phenomenon.

If you're still shipping Peregrine and James, Ms. Fisher's Modern Mysteries Season 2 Episode 6 is the episode for you.
Acorn TV was kind enough to provide TV Fanatic with an exclusive clip of the upcoming episode that finds the pair working a case that gives them some food for thought.
"On race day, the president of the Sandridge Pigeon Club is discovered dead in the coop, covered in feathers and choked by birdseed," reads the logline for the episode.
"While Peregrine works the case with James, Birdie has her own mysterious mission to complete."
The clip shows the ever-observant Ms. Fisher speaking to James and dissecting her observations about the guest characters who very well could have murdered the man found in his coop.
What's immediately obvious is that the conversation begins about those characters, but it very quickly becomes about the two characters at the wheel of the show.

When we first met Peregrine Fisher in 2019’s “Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries” on AcornTV, she was a little bit at loose ends. Sure, she inherited a sweet house, a sports car, and a knockout wardrobe from her aunt — the indefatigable Phryne Fisher of the cult favorite TV show “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries” — but Peregrine was unsure about taking on her relative’s whole “solving crimes while looking fabulous” thing.
Judging by the trailer for the upcoming second season of the spinoff, Peregrine has come to terms with her new role — and she even has the private detective nameplate to prove it. Below, IndieWire exclusively debuts the trailer, first look photos, and release date for the second season of “Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries.”

Manx lures children, feeds off their souls, then deposits what remains of them into Christmasland—a twisted Christmas Village of Manx’s imagination where every day is Christmas Day and unhappiness is against the law.
Alongside bubbly, purple-haired librarian Maggie Leigh (Jahkara Smith – Into the Dark) who has a Scrabble bag portal to the universe, Vic must strive to defeat Manx and henchman Bing Partridge, and rescue the missing children – all without losing her mind or falling victim herself…...

Fiona Eagger.
The biggest challenge facing TV producers next year is figuring out ways to keep Australian dramas screening on the free-to-air broadcasters, according to Fiona Eagger.
Eagger, who co-founded Every Cloud Productions with Deb Cox, welcomes the raising of the TV Producer Offset to 30 per cent but laments the abolition of the local content sub-quotas for Fta networks.
“For Australian producers our greatest challenge is keeping Australian drama alive on our free-to-airs,” she tells If. “All the networks want to keep making Australian drama because when it hits the sweet spot, it creates great audience loyalty to a brand.
“But they’re worried about their revenues and livelihoods so, hand-in-glove with Screen Australia and the state agencies, we have to be really clever in how we put deals together.
“We are resilient and inventive but it’s not easy when the government gives on one hand but takes away on the other hand.

Kelly Lefever.
Prolific screenwriter, script producer and story editor Kelly Lefever is juggling multiple projects – not least a deeply personal series about disability.
Inspired by her own family’s experiences, Care will look at five families who each care for a family member who was born with or acquired a disability.
Her daughter Alexandra, who is 30, was born with Kabuki syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.
“This is a universal story,” Kelly told If. “There are more than 3 million people in Australia who care for a family member or a close relative.
“Most of us will have to deal with this at some time in our lives with aging parents. For me it has been a very grounding experience which has also brought tremendous joy and humour.”
Lefever is in talks with a producer and intends to pitch the project to the ABC, Sbs or streamers.

What’s your favourite Australian film of the last decade?
That’s one of the questions Aacta is putting to the general public over the coming week as voting opens for its new Audience Choice Awards.
In contention for the film award are: Peter Rabbit, Red Dog, The Sapphires, The Great Gatsby, The Water Diviner, The Dressmaker, Lion, Ride Like A Girl and Mad Max: Fury Road.
While many of those nominated correspond to the Academy’s own ‘Best Film’ winners over the past 10 years, there are some notable exclusions – 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge, 2018’s Sweet Country and 2019’s The Nightingale.
The Favourite TV Drama of The Decade category sees each broadcaster score two nods – bar Sbs, who were snubbed. They include 10’s Offspring and Neighbours, ABC’s Mystery Road and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Foxtel’s Top of the Lake and Wentworth, Seven’s Molly and Home and Away,...

Murder mysteries, scandalous affairs, and a dashing lady detective with a wardrobe to rival James Bond. That's a quick summary of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. The show lasted three seasons, running from 2012 to 2015, and was popular enough to move beyond the borders of Australia to an international audience. The show is still popular among fans of both sleuthing and history and even inspired a spin-off, Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries, which takes place in the 1960s.
