Mahalai Tiang Kuen

I stumbled upon the 2016 Thai horror comedy "Mahalai Tiang Kuen" (aka "Midnight University") here in 2022. And even without ever having heard about the movie, of course I opted to sit down and watch it, as I do enjoy Asian movies. And with it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I sat down to watch it.

Directors Piyabutr Athisuk, Kritsada Kaniwichaphon and Kanin Kulsumitrawong didn't really manage to churn out an overly interesting horror comedy. I found the storyline to be rather poorly written and it was just lacking elements that would interest me, so it was a tedious movie to sit through.

The movie was rather devoid of comedy, so that was somewhat disappointing. And the horror elements are light, so don't expect to be scared off of the edge of your seat.

The acting performances in "Mahalai Tiang Kuen" were adequate, despite the fact that the actors and actresses had little to work with in terms of a proper script and storyline.

If you enjoy Asian horror comedies, then "Mahalai Tiang Kuen" is not really a particularly great option. It is something you watch once, and then never return to watch ever again.

My rating of "Mahalai Tiang Kuen" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.
