I stumbled upon the 2010 Thai sci-fi comedy titled "Kra Deub" (aka "Cool Gel Attacks"). Of course I had to sit down to watch it, since I enjoy Asian cinema quite a lot, and also because the synopsis made it seem like a fun movie.
And while "Cool Gel Attacks" definitely was watchable, it just ultimately wasn't as outstanding or funny as I had hoped it would be. Sure, the movie was watchable and enjoyable enough for what it was, but it just wasn't a comedy that was crammed with laughs, nor was it a particularly impressive addition to the Thai cinema.
The storyline in "Cool Gel Attacks" is adequate enough, although it does lack a bit more contents at times, since it felt like it was going forwards in neutral gear once in a while. So writer Sompope Vejchapipat just didn't really fully make use of the opportunities that were readily available with such a script and the possibilities of adding more comedy contents to the story.
As for the acting in "Cool Gel Attacks" was good enough, and the actors and actresses seemed to be enjoying participating in the movie. I could, though, have wished for a bit more intricate dialogue for the actors and actresses, and also for a bit more fleshed out characters.
All in all, "Cool Gel Attacks" was watchable. But it is hardly a movie that warrants more than just a single viewing. In that sense, then director Jaturong Mokjok just delivered a lukewarm movie here.
Visually then "Cool Gel Attacks" was adequate, but it wasn't a grand spectacle of impressive CGI effects though. I will say that the CGI worked well enough to serve their purposes, but I just wasn't impressed with this particular CGI, as it was reminiscent of a 1990s computer game.
My rating of "Cool Gel Attacks" lands on a mediocre five out of ten stars.
