Cheesy B-horror with some good moments

Bottom line: If you're looking for a cheesy B-Horror, Dead Ant is fun enough, but they didn't do a great job with most of it. It's worth a watch, but don't expect it to be more than it advertises.

Dead Ant is a mediocre B-horror movie with a pretty decent cast. You'll recognize a lot of the actors and it's fun to see them all in a movie that doesn't take itself seriously. It's not a hidden gem or an amazing comedy, but it delivers what it promises.

After the setup, it gets a little rough for a bit and was shaping up to be a 4/10, but by the end they do a lot of the rock & roll jokes you wanted to see the whole time and they save it. Ironically the logic gets worse and worse, but the quality of the jokes do get better as it gets closer to the conclusion. If they were able to do the whole film like the ending scenes then I would have loved it.

Jake Busey is great as always, Tom Arnold has some pretty funny lines, and I really enjoyed Danny Woodburn until the end when they made him kind of lame.

    Nicely Done

Watched this with a friend and both we really enjoyed it - yes, Dead Ant is for certain no masterpiece but nevertheless entertaining - if you like horror + comedy + trash movie style. Alone the rock 'n' roll cliches are well played and here and there you get even a sip of gore. Not to forget the hot chicks provided, and last but not least, the acting and cam work are rock solid.

To sum it up: Dead Ant is a good one if you like trashy horror-comedies which you can watch "braindead" ;)

If you like sharknado! But want a little more.

I actually thought this was better than sharknado but it is in a similar vein. The movie is not good but it isn't trying to be. It is just fun and ridiculousness.

Tom Arnold has some great lines. Who knew there was another Busey actor but I recognized the teeth.

The whole thing is a crazy survival horror flick. Even a little person fight in the end.

Several B and C list actors. Even Sean Astin is in it.

It is just plain fun. Ridiculous without being corny. The acting is good enough to prevent it from becoming just corny.

I put it on cable on a whim to kill time and got hooked. I believe it is on Showtime beyond now (August 2019).

It doesn't take itself serious. I am sure none of the cast thought "this is my breakout performance opportunity" when they signed on.

    It is worth a watch.

For this genre it wasn't bad.

I can understand the reviewers that thought it was horrible. Those reviewers are looking for something of higher quality, a serious movie with a suspenseful plot and with great special effects. Those things are all absent in Dead Ant. It's all just a bit of fun and mockery for the horror genre. It's a cheap horror/comedy with some mildly gore moments. The special effects are lousy but it just adds the right ambiance to this movie, nothing taken too serious. But it was entertaining, or at least to me it was but that's maybe because of the wacky tabacky, something I would recommend to have some nice good laughs with stupid humor like in this movie. The acting wasn't bad, it was supposed to be funny and that's exactly what it was.

Great concept... but man, a terrible execution

DEAD ANT has certainly a bad reputation. It has 4,8 and mostly negative reviews and apart from Sean Astin, Tom Arnold and Jake Busey the other cast members are all unknowns. Why I saw it then if you could think I could have searched something better? Well, I am certainly an omniscient half-God capable of swallowing everything, so I am not certainly scared of a movie about ferocious ants. So is DEAD ANT that bad? Not really. Now I am not saying that it's a terrible movie, and I have certainly seen something worse. Read the following text.

The one-hit wonder band Sonic Grave wants to do a tour because they had success in 1989 and they are in hope of a comeback. They are on their truck but after a tire breaks, trouble begins because nearby someone threw steroids on an ant colony making them huger and stronger. Art (Astin) is chasen by some of these ants and attack him chopping off all his limbs, and Samantha is devoured by the ants when she tries to step on one of their holes. So Danny (Arnold) and the other band members have no other choice that stop the killer ants on their way to Coachella, and will succedd not without some injuries and disasters.

Giant mutant ants that become blood-thirsty of human flesh... a great concept that could be loved at least by folks with dark sense of humour like me, right? Well, I was hoping it was at least good but the too many gory scenes and especially the loudness and abrasiveness of nearly all the characters really turned me off. If the performances were at least a bit more subtle and the special effects not that gory, I probably would have given a higher score.

Overall, a bad movie that I would recommend only to folks who have nothing important to do at home (or nothing better to watch) or for fans of the leads like me. Could have been great, but thanks to a bad direction, it's what it is.
