Though the band name in the movie is contrived, the actual band music references like "Don't Close Your Eyes", and "Blow My Fuse" (sung toward the end by Jake Busey) is word-for-word taken from the 80s rock Band KIX! Credit for this should be verified to exist at the end movie credits.
B-movie horror queen Cortney Palm filmed the opening scene running from the giant ant as a favor for the director. Originally she was supposed to be in a bikini top and shorts. But while filming, she told the director she thought it would be hilarious if she started stripping off her clothes in a panic as she ran. He loved the idea and before long she was running at full speed stark naked and screaming.
In one shot Sean Astin says he's from the Shire! Maybe a wink to his previous acting in "Lord of the Rings".
