Mickey Rourke was once loved for his looks as much as he was for his acting. A long time ago, in the 1980s, he had it all. From fame, charm to a face that was perfect for Hollywood. However, over time, everything started to change. His face started to look a bit different. A little puffy, a little stretched, and sometimes almost unrecognizable. With this, fans started asking questions. What happened? Why does Mickey Rourke look so different now?
Rumors started to fly. Some said it was bad plastic surgery. Some thought he wanted to look younger. Some said he overdid it. But the real story is much deeper than that. Rourke didn’t just decide to change his face. It was a long, painful journey, both physically and emotionally.

Just two days into his UK Celebrity Big Brother stint, actor Mickey Rourke is finding himself under fire for homophobic remarks aimed at housemate JoJo Siwa. The incident led to a formal warning from the show's production team. During a conversation with Siwa, who is openly queer and in a relationship with a nonbinary person, Rourke made several offensive comments. He reportedly joked that if he remained in the house for more than four days, Siwa "won't be gay anymore," and later added a disturbing remark about wanting to "tie" her up.
Later, while talking to housemate Chris Hughes (Love Island) within Siwa's earshot, he stated he was "going to vote the lesbian out real quick." When Siwa called him out for the homophobic nature of the comment, Rourke used a derogatory anti-gay slur, directing it in Siwa's direction while claiming he was referring to a cigarette (in the British...

Unlike most other survival horror franchises, the Silent Hill games keep fans coming back for more by investing in a certain feeling rather than familiar monsters and recurring characters. Yes, Pyramid Head and the nurses are some of the biggest icons in gaming, but it’s really the series’ unique blend of Nietzschean psychology and moody atmosphere that makes it stand out. That’s why it’s only natural that fans would also search for the same eerie vibes in other media.
And while I’ll admit that there’s nothing out there that feels exactly like the Silent Hill games (even the adaptations can’t quite replicate the surreal solitude of the source material), today I’d like to share a list attempting to answer one of the most common questions asked by new Silent Hill fans: are there any movies that feel like Silent Hill?

The American anime streaming landscape has never been more competitive. While anime used to be a niche product in America, today, all the major streaming platforms offer at least a handful of exclusive anime series, with the launch of each new release being treated as a big deal. Disney+ is one of the most fascinating examples of this, as while the platform does host some impressive anime series, the firm has been unable to cement itself as a popular anime distributor, with many of its titles getting overlooked by fans. However, a recently announced reboot may be about to change that, allowing Disney+ to become a massive player in the anime streaming scene.
On November 20th, 2024, the Japanese Disney+ Twitter account announced that a reboot of Cat's Eye will launch on the service.

With a plethora of high-profile movies and shows, Robert De Niro can easily be one of Hollywood’s most influential actors. The most evident proof of this lies in the numerous accolades to his name, including two Academy Awards. Though he’s a big star today, his early career started in the 1960s with several minor and supporting roles.

As I’m sure you wonderful gore-hounds know by now, we love every weird and wonderful sub genre the twisted world of horror has thrown our way over the years. Sit this particular horror fan down to watch the latest splatterfest, zombie massacre, creature feature or slasher flick, to name but a few, and I’d be happy as a pig in shit. Happier in fact. Folk horror and witchcraft is one subgenre that I’ve grown to increasingly appreciate over the years, and most recently the work of Robert Eggers, for example, has had me enthralled. It was his 2015 folk horror, The Witch, that first introduced me to his nuanced, macabre yet beautifully crafted movies, and everything he’s produced since has been a must see. The trailer for his take on Nosferatu has just dropped at the time of writing this video and it looks immense. However, with...

Zombies have become a pretty major part of the horror genre. The first zombie movie, "White Zombie," was released all the way back in 1932, but they first really took a bite out of our subconscious with George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" in 1968. Since then, their popularity has exploded, with more zombie movies, TV shows, and books than you could shake a stick at. But where did the idea of zombies really come from?
It turns out that zombies have their origins in Haitian Vodou (more commonly known as voodoo). Unlike its cousin hoodoo, practiced in New Orleans as a kind of mixture of folk medicine and superstition, Vodou is a complex diaspora faith borne of West African religions. In Vodou, a zombi is someone put under the control of another through the use of psychedelic plants, a nightmarish concept documented in anthropological texts like "Tell My Horse...

Since its creation in 1985, the City Hunter manga has spawned multiple adaptations, from TV anime to live-action movies. Tsukasa Hojo’s manga is a timeless tale of a character who wants to do good in a world full of bad without getting sucked into violence or vengeance. The Story is Simple Ryo Saeba loves women but can be perceived as harassing in some ways. He says he accepts any mission as long as his heart is moved (or as long as the client is a beautiful woman), but what makes the character so simple to understand is that he deeply cares. Behind his pervy looks, he always does the right thing. His backstory is neither the funniest nor the prettiest; he lived to kill, and yet he chose to become a Pi to maintain some justice in the dark alleys of Shinjuku. Kevin Spacey may have been found not guilty in his sex offenses trial last year, but he still might as well be The Devil as far as a lot of people are concerned – so it’s fitting that he does indeed play a version of The Devil in his latest project, the psychological thriller The Contract, which just wrapped production in Italy. Spacey’s character in the film directed by Massimo Paolucci is called The Devil, and the filmmakers told Variety that his role is along the lines of “Al Pacino’s in The Devil’s Advocate as Satan who takes the guise of a human lawyer, and that of Robert De Niro in Angel Heart, a Satanic businessman who hires a seedy gumshoe detective to descend into Hell.”
Details on the plot of the English-language film have not been revealed. Spacey is joined in the cast by Eric Roberts and Vincent Spano.

Kevin Spacey will appear as a character named “The Devil” in Italian director Massimo Paolucci’s psychological thriller “The Contract,” which just wrapped principal photography in Rome.
The English-language film, described in a statement as having a similar storyline as Alan Parker’s “Angel Heart” and Taylor Hackford’s “The Devil’s Advocate,” also stars Eric Roberts and Vincent Spano, Italian production company Tm Entertainment said.
Spacey arrived in Rome last December to shoot “The Contract.”
Reps for Spacey, Roberts and Spano did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The “House of Cards” star’s career imploded amid allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017, but he has since been found not liable in an October 2022 lawsuit brought by “Star Trek: Discovery” actor Anthony Rapp and was declared not guilty in a U.K. sexual assault trial in July 2023. In 1982, anthropologist Wade Davis traveled to Haiti on a mission: to investigate documented cases of zombiism, specifically cases of people who had been declared dead but who then miraculously came back to life. Davis immersed himself in the very real world of Haitian voodoo, witnessing an array of unbelievable rituals and fascinating rites, prompting him to write the book The Serpent and the Rainbow, which would go on to become a bestseller. Referred to in certain circles as a sort of real life Indiana Jones, Davis’ profile rose and, of course, Hollywood came calling, hoping his tales of voodoo and mystery might translate into a spectacular big screen adventure. Davis was wary of Hollywood and worried the adaptation of his book would bastardize his accounts, but hoped if the right people were involved, his story would be given a respectable treatment. As is often the case in the City of Angels,...

True Detective shows hints of greatness but ultimately borrows heavily from better films, books, and thinkers. Rust Cohle, the standout character, was the first embodiment of the series' tendency to steal its greatest moments. Each season of True Detective draws inspiration from different genres and sources, often resulting in a watered-down imitation. Especially season four.
Pretty much every artist steals. Culture is an ongoing communication between people across centuries and countries; it's a dialogue between artists of the past and present. It's a dialectical process in which things are imitated, mixed with different copies, and eventually become something different. But there's a line between simply being unoriginal (most art is to varying degrees) and being egregiously parasitic, taking far more than it gives and without any credit. It's the difference between a paraphrase and copying a quotation without citation. That's the line True Detective walks.

Seraphim Falls strongly suggests Angelica Huston's character, Madame Louise, might be the Devil in disguise. Another demonic character, Charon, makes an appearance in Seraphim Falls, further hinting at a supernatural element in the story. Seraphim Falls draws inspiration from the film Angel Heart, where the main character discovers that a supporting character is actually the Devil.
Western drama Seraphim Falls leaves a big hint that one supporting player is the Devil. The late-'00s found Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson in interesting places, careerwise. The former had been dropped as James Bond following Die Another Day and was trying to figure out his star persona outside the franchise. This led to some wildly entertaining Pierce Brosnan movies like The Matador and, of course, Mamma Mia. After playing a series of mentor roles in films such as Kingdom of Heaven or Batman Begins, Neeson was reborn as an action star thanks to 2008's Taken.

Not all actors go on to work together throughout their careers, with Robert De Niro and Mickey Rourke being two of many to enter a longstanding feud that reportedly endures to this day. According to Business Insider, the two superstars began their beef after starring together in 1987’s Angel Heart, a supernatural neo-noir thriller directed by Alan Parker that Christopher Nolan cited as a massive influence on Memento for its fractured narrative and penchant for mind-blowing plot twists as they relate to faith and identity. But what were the conditions that ignited such an enduring dispute? And how did Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman somehow play a role in kickstarting it all over again?...

Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" turns 34 this year. The movie itself spans more than three decades, chronicling Henry Hill's (Ray Liotta) life as an associate in the New York mob — Hill's life story was first told to the public by the nonfiction book "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the "Goodfellas" script with Scorsese.
"Goodfellas" is a cinematic shot of adrenaline, cut with vivacious energy by Thelma Schoonmaker and scored with classic rock to reflect the anti-authority glamour of mid-20th century gangsters. No matter if you watch it in all its sprawling glory or just sample clips, it's enjoyable — nay, irresistible.
Since "Goodfellas" packs so many years into two-and-a-half hours, it has a huge cast. So much time has passed since "Goodfellas" premiered in theaters and left its mark on crime cinema that not all of these actors are still with us. Miraculously, though, quite a few of them...

Robert De Niro's extensive filmography is defined by his versatility, but he is best known for his roles in crime and mafia movies. De Niro's collaborations with Martin Scorsese, such as "The King of Comedy" and "Raging Bull," showcase his incredible ability to portray complex and intense characters. "The Godfather Part II" solidified De Niro's stardom and is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, with De Niro's portrayal of the young Vito Corleone standing out as his best performance.
Known as one of the greatest actors ever, Robert De Niro has an extensive filmography, though some movies stand out as his best. Before Alan Wake hit the scene, PC gamers had Gabriel Knight as their horror author caught in a psychological nightmare. Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers hit the PC back in December 1993, and despite its eventual sales figures deeming it to be a disappointment, Sins of the Fathers still received praise from critics and fans, thanks in part to its voice cast and mature story. Publisher Sierra still stuck with it, and kicked off a series that remains highly regarded among fans of the adventure genre.

There's no shortage of neo-noir movies. Epics such as 2014's anxiety-inducing cinematic masterpiece Nightcrawler and 2017's unforgettable You Were Never Really Here have been near the forefront of the subgenre in the past decade or so. Both offer dark, captivating, and tense experiences that tap into the morally ambiguous worlds and pessimistic themes of film noir but with modern sensibilities, bolstered by phenomenal performances from the entire cast. The latest entry in this subgenre is 2023's Barber, starring the great Aidan Gillen.
Many may recognize Gillen from his roles in some of the greatest television series of all time, including Tommy Carcetti in The Wire, Aberama Gold in Peaky Blinders, and of course Petyr Baelish, or 'Little Finger' as he is more commonly known, in the hit HBO fantasy show, Game of Thrones.

Judging by its trailer, "Barber" is the story of a private investigator out to find a missing girl. A down-and-out protagonist, in over his head, stumbles onto a larger conspiracy that goes all the way to the top. If you've seen it once, you've seen it a thousand times, right? Not necessarily.
That may be the spine of "Barber," but half of the story is a family drama. The titular Pi has a loving relationship with his teenage daughter, and is trying to navigate how to raise her with his ex-wife. And instead of being set in the seedy streets of Los Angeles, the neo-noir capital of the world, this one's set in Ireland, a locale that's far from typical for this subgenre. Those two elements are enough to make this movie stand out from its contemporaries.

Horror movies have been around for a long time, and in recent decades, horror movie remakes have become very common. Remakes of horror hits from the 1970s, 1980s and beyond have consistently slashed their way into theaters, with varying degrees of success. Thankfully, there's one underrated classic that's been untouched despite plans to the contrary.
Angel Heart was an incredibly underrated and equally contentious movie from the '80s, combining psychological horror thrills and urban fantasy with noir and mystery. It was very much a product of its time, which is likely why plans to remake it have stalled for over a decade. The film is by no means a traditional horror movie and losing said uniqueness in a remake would be a massive mistake.

Jena Malone returns to the horror genre with Consecration. The film centers on Grace, a woman who travels to an isolated Scottish convent to investigate the supposed murder/suicide committed by her brother, only to discover something more sinister going on.
Alongside Malone, the cast for Consecration includes Wonder Woman's Danny Huston, Dame Janet Suzman, and Thoren Ferguson. Hailing from Triangle and Black Death writer-director Christopher Smith, the religious horror drama delivers an effectively dreamlike and chilling mystery that results in a shocking finale.

(Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: "Pink Floyd — The Wall.")
The first time I watched "Pink Floyd — The Wall" was also the first time I experimented with hallucinogenic drugs. A '90s kid to the core, I had heard countless stories from my parents and their friends about how life-changing it was to experience the film for the first time and I wanted a little taste of that. The joke's on me though, because I have aphantasia, and hallucinogens are one of the only ways folks like me can actually visualize with my eyes closed. Needless to say, I totally freaked out and had to lie down for what felt like approximately three days. Regardless, 10/10 would do again in a heartbeat.

Sin and Damnation – How Scott Derrickson’s Underrated ‘Hellraiser: Inferno’ Rises Above Expectations
At the recent Silver Scream Con, I was surprised to hear Hellraiser star Doug Bradley remark, “The only one in the series I feel doesn’t work is Inferno, for various reasons.” I had always considered the 2000 effort one of the franchise’s stronger offerings, but it had been a while since I revisited the series, so I thought it may not hold up as well as I remembered.
As I’m working my way through the series ahead of David Bruckner‘s reboot, which drops October 7 on Hulu, I can confirm my support for the fifth installment. I have no doubt that Bradley has his reasons for disliking the film – it being the first installment to be released straight to video no doubt required adjustments, not to mention his minuscule screen time as Pinhead – but, even with its shortcomings, I think Hellraiser: Inferno is better than he gives it credit for.

What do you do after you make a film that soars so far over budget it cripples one of Hollywood's most beloved studios? First off, you fall to your knees and thank the cinema gods that anyone is willing to finance anything more substantial than a home movie with your name on it. Secondly, you make certain your next film comes in on time and on budget. Finally, maybe tackle a subject that's unlikely to court controversy.
Michael Cimino at the very least delivered 1985's "Year of the Dragon" with a minimum of production fuss, even though his exacting aesthetic standards led him to seamlessly recreate parts of New York City's Chinatown on the Deg backlot in Wilmington, North Carolina while shooting select interiors and exteriors in six different cities all over the world. This might sound like a logistical nightmare, but Cimino learned his lesson from the debacle of "Heaven's Gate.

In Southern Gothic, the Deep South is a place of unrest. The crumbling castles of traditional Gothic horror are turned into aging plantation estates. Families living in the very places their ancestors built will find themselves haunted. But the supernatural is scarcely to be blamed. Flawed humans are the real source of most of the mayhem. Clint Eastwood leaves behind his cowboy hat to cause distress and sexual frustrations in The Beguiled (1971), while Jennifer Lawrence braves the Ozarks to save her family in Winter’s Bone (2009). Over the decades, newer movies have added in the supernatural as a very real threat. Rituals and the occult make a bloody mess in Angel Heart (1987) and The Skeleton Key (2005).

Tom Cruise’s career doesn’t impress Mickey Rourke.
Rourke weighed in on fellow ’80s breakout star Cruise’s A-lister status during a recent interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” When host Morgan asked Rourke what it’s like to see Cruise back at the top of the box office charts with summer blockbuster sequel “Top Gun: Maverick,” Rourke jabbed, “That doesn’t mean shit to me.”
“The guy’s been doing the same f-ing part for 35 years,” Rourke added (via Metro UK). “I got no respect for that.”
Cruise reprises his role of Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the follow-up to 1986’s hit film.
Morgan asked, “You don’t think Tom Cruise is a good actor?,” to which Rourke responded, “I think he’s irrelevant, in my world.”
Rourke continued, “I don’t care about money and power. I care about when I watch Al Pacino work and Chris Walken...
