Stellar Performances By Riz Ahmed And Lily James (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Riz Ahmed steps into Relay with the quiet presence he is known for. He plays Tom, a professional fixer who manages corporate payoffs like he is moving pieces on a chessboard. His tight and deliberate performance peels back into something more personal as the story unfolds. Lily James appears as Sarah, a woman who might need his services or have other motives entirely. Their scenes together do not shout for attention but keep a steady grip on it.

American actor-singer Jussie Smollett, who originally rose to prominence for his role on Empire, where he played Jamal Lyon, became a lightning rod for controversy in 2019, when he was accused of faking a hate crime attack on himself.
Given his status as a black and gay actor, the alleged assault, which Smollett reported on January 29, 2019, resulted in an outpouring of sympathy towards him, with Empire producers Fox Entertainment releasing a statement that read (per Variety):

Titanic director James Cameron has never shied away from expressing his deep love for the Ocean. So when asked about the 2018 hit about the King of The Ocean Aquaman, Cameron didn’t hesitate to give his brutally honest opinion.
James Cameron has always been deeply fascinated with ocean life. The Canadian filmmaker directed one of the most iconic films about a tragic shipwreck in the middle of the Atlantic first divided into Titanic in 1995. This was followed by another 32 trips to the bottom of the Ocean.

Paul Reiser has been acting for the screen since Barry Levinson’s Diner over 40 years ago, and performing as a stand-up comic even longer than that. But today, he’ll enter a new arena: starring* in an adult animation show. It’s called Long Story Short, and it’s from creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg (BoJack Horseman). It follows the Schwooper family, moving forward and back in time: a bar mitzvah for son Yoshi (voice of Max Greenfield); eldest son Avi (Ben Feldman) getting defensive that his daughter Hannah (Michaela Dietz) is participating in a “winter-themed” recital at her school that’s clearly all about Christmas; middle child Shira (Abbi Jacobson) falling...

With its third episode, Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth continues to subvert expectations and cut through the noise of franchise fodder, instead finding something distinct and singular within the confines of the long-running series.
Titled “Metamorphosis,” the episode is directed by Dana Gonzales with a script by Hawley and frequent Fargo collaborator and Alfred Hitchcock Presents writer Bob DeLaurentis. Right out of the gate, the title of the episode itself immediately conjures some pretty compelling connotations for established fans of the Alien franchise; if the first two episodes featured a bunch of creatures and eggs in the earliest forms of their lifecycles, then a subsequent episode with such a title invites you to make some pretty clear conclusions about where this story might go.

'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' Dethrones One of the Best Animes of the 2010s at Japanese Box Office
Before Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castleenters Western theaters, the film has already been dethroned one of the best anime films of the mid-2010s. Your Name, by Makoto Shinkai, has lost its spot as Japan’s highest-grossing film of all time to the latest Demon Slayer film, thus setting the stage for what's to come once the film arrives in theaters this September.
When Your Name came out in 2016, the feature generated ¥25.17 billion, making it the second-largest gross for a domestic film in the country, behind Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. But that changed when Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train came out...

Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher has come a long way since he foiled a corruption plot in the small town of Margrave, Georgia. Back in 2022, season 1 of "Reacher" saw Ritchson's ex-military policeman arriving in the town (which was actually built in a Canadian cornfield) and causing all sorts of havoc after his brother is discovered dead and he's blamed for the murder. Since then, he's faced off against Robert Patrick's Shane Langston in season 2 (in what was a clear homage to a James Cameron classic) and thwarted an international arms dealer and his sprawling operation in season 3.
But back in season 1, he was just a guy looking for a place to get a slice of pie, before he got caught up in the small town conspiracy that ultimately saw him putting an end to a counterfeiting operation and clearing his name.

For fans of director James Cameron's earlier movies like "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Aliens," or "Titanic," it's hard not to be frustrated by Cameron's later-career filmography. After "Titanic" was released in 1997, Cameron has only released two movies since: "Avatar" in 2009 and "Avatar: Way of Water" in 2022. The third movie in the franchise, "Avatar: Fire & Ash," is set to release in December this year, with two more "Avatar" sequels after that.
In other words, Cameron has spent most of the past 25 years focused entirely on "Avatar," which is a problem for viewers who don't think the "Avatar" movies are all that good. If you think the franchise is all style and no substance, if you think the movies are too long and the characters too archetypal, it's easy to see why you might echo the common talking point that Cameron is "wasting his life" by dedicating so much of it to his blue alien movies.

Bridgerton theories continue to fuel fan investment well after the release of Season 3. However, the extravagant Netflix sets of the third season are no less, either. Production designer Alison Gartshore revealed in an August 18 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the famous Botanical Ball did not use CGI.
Unlike James Cameron’s go-to CGI techniques for his Avatar films, the Netflix series decided to employ faux florals and a mechanical pop-up centerpiece. Gartshore’s team collaborated with the special effects department to build a fully functioning pop-up garden, which wowed audiences (and Queen Charlotte). The complete set for the botanical ball took approximately 10 to 12 weeks to come together.
The artistry of the hand-painted flowers and murals is a stark contrast to Cameron’s CGI-infused spectacles. This proves the Netflix show’s commitment to delivering authentic sets.

The story of film in the 1970s (and beyond) could be told without Roger Corman, but that story would be way more conventional, much less creatively exciting, a fraction as bold, and a lot less fun.
Bruce Dern, then just one of the fledgling actors to whom Corman gave crucial early roles, recalled asking Corman on the set of “The Wild Angels” in 1966 how many films he had made. “He told me about 60,” Dern told IndieWire. “That just knocked me out. He was a decade older than me, but I was amazed at the amount of movies he had done already.”
Corman was just getting warmed up. For the King of the Bs, who tapped an underserved youth market with his biker, beach, and rock and roll films in the 1960s, the 1970s would prove to be his heyday. In 1970, he launched New World Pictures and focused on producing and distribution.

In 2016, Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name went international and has since become one of Japan’s highest-grossing films of all time. Now, a new movie has finally taken its spot at the box office.
Shinkai’s Your Name was released in Japan in August 2016 and tells the story of Taki and Mitsuha, two teenagers who begin mysteriously swapping bodies. However, the supernatural and at first somewhat comedic hijinks reveal a darker tone, as Mitsuha, living in the small town of Itomori, actually died three years prior when a comet destroyed the town. The film helped cement Shinkai as a major directorial force, with some even calling him the new Miyazaki.

James Cameron has a confession: he can’t write Terminator 7. And it’s not because Hollywood won’t let him, as he’s too busy making the new Avatar – it’s because reality keeps nicking his plotlines. “I’m at a point right now where I have a hard time writing science-fiction,” Cameron told CNN this week. “I’m tasked with writing a new Terminator story [but] I don’t know what to say that won’t be overtaken by real events. However, DiCaprio regrets not starring in one of Anderson's first movies, almost three decades ago. In a recent interview with Anderson, DiCaprio notes that his biggest regret is not starring in the director's adult-film epic Boogie Nights, in the role that would eventually be played by Mark Wahlberg.

One of the most rewarding examples of movie magic, stunts represent cinema at its most visceral. Performers have been executing stunts on screen from the very beginning. Edwin S. Porter's 1903 film "The Great Train Robbery," one of cinema's earliest smash hits, includes numerous stunts throughout its 13-minute runtime, including shootouts, explosions, fight scenes, and horseback riding. Though CGI and special effects have become quite advanced since then, the best 21st-century action scenes are still those that employ practical effects and boots-on-the-ground stunt work.
The lineage of modern stunt performances can be traced back 100 years. Comedians Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton pioneered daredevil stunt work during the silent era. Historical epics and westerns incited shock and awe in the 1940s and 1950s. The New American Cinema films of the 1970s portrayed gritty action, while Hong Kong cinema exploded in popularity in the 1980s thanks to performers like Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh.

James Cameron burst onto the scene with the sci-fi action classic "The Terminator," and he has since parlayed that success into a very prosperous Hollywood career. Cameron's "Avatar" made history by becoming the highest-grossing film of all time on two occasions, while his sequel, "Avatar: The Way of Water," is right up there with it in terms of profitability and currently ranks as the third highest-grossing movie ever. Elsewhere, "Titanic" -- Cameron's award-winning disaster blockbuster starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as lovers on the titular sinking ship -- occupies the fourth spot on that same list. Needless to say, the man knows how to write, direct, and produce hits, although even he isn't immune to projects that fail to gain the interest of the masses.

James Cameron turns 71 years old today, and in honor of the legendary director, let’s look at a simple yet profound phrase that connects two distinct movies from his filmography: Avatar and Titanic. “I see you,” are words that viewers might have overlooked, but you’ll hear them from Jack when Rose flips through his sketchbook.
Years later, Cameron elevated these words into the heartbeat of Avatar, where the Na’vi use them as a greeting, and it’s said multiple times in both installments during pivotal moments. It’s no coincidence that I See You is also the name of the Avatar theme song performed by Leona Lewis, where she repeats the same words in the chorus.
The recurrence suggests that “I see you” holds a deeper meaning, and it’s possibly a phrase that Cameron has embodied in all his pursuits.

As fans of the Alien franchise catch up with the recent release of the FX TV series Alien: Earth, creatorNoah Hawleyhas decided to set the record straight about the series being canon, explaining how it fits into the horror sci-fi universe created by Ridley Scott in 1979. Hawley has already indicated that the series won't referencePrometheus or Alien: Covenant, the two Scott-directed prequels which, in their own ways, contributed to the franchise. Now, Hawley says that the series takes place within its own timeline, without necessarily following the rules of the previous movies.
In the game of crossovers and shared universes, rules are constantly being broken. Hawley is following the trend with Alien: Earth, the show that sees a crew on Earth discovering the remains of a spaceship that has crashed, and the unexpected threat that sits inside. It's been a roller coaster of a year at the box office, from the low lows of January when disappointments like "Wolf Man" were having to carry the load, to the high highs we've seen more recently with movies such as "Lilo & Stitch" over-delivering with $1 billion globally. But the biggest surprise of 2025 remains the Chinese animated blockbuster "Ne Zha 2," which shattered records by making more than $2 billion earlier this year. Almost all of that money came from China, which is probably why most English-speaking folks in North America have never even heard of it. That narrative will be changing soon, though, if A24 has anything to say about it.

Seeing the footage from One Battle After Another, nobody would have bothered to compare it to the works of George Lucas or James Cameron. But that’s what star Leonardo DiCaprio has done, saying Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest shares themes with both.

Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth is at its best when it’s contrasting space monsters with our own species’ worst instincts. Spoilers ahead…
Nb: The following contains spoilers for Alien: Earth episodes one and two.
“You know Burke,” an exhausted and sickened Ripley said in Aliens, “I don’t know which species is worse. You don’t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage.”

There’s a word I scribbled in my notes about the new “Red Sonja” that stands out among the rest. After pages full of sentences like “Science = Bad?” and “Why are scientists setting a fire during a rainstorm?” and “Sonja’s kidnapped horse is inexplicably imprisoned next to the important science orb of unspeakable power, because reasons?” there lies a single word. Underlined. And that word is … “Papyrus.”
Papyrus is not the most respectable of fonts. Even before “Saturday Night Live” correctly roasted James Cameron for spending hundreds of millions of dollars on the CGI in “Avatar” only to cheap out on the subtitles, papyrus was generic shorthand for kinda-old-looking-but-not-really. It’s the font middle schoolers use for the title of a history report, and an early sign that they’re going to get a B-. The fact that “Red Sonja” uses this font in its closing credits isn’t itself a problem.

Not every actor can afford to be picky about the roles they end up taking. It's a brutal industry to be selective in. But if you see an upcoming film that stars an actor like Leonardo DiCaprio, that means he truly believes in the project. The teen heartthrob turned Academy Award-winning actor boasts quite the filmography having worked with such celebrated filmmakers as James Cameron ("Titanic"), Christopher Nolan ("Inception"), Steven Spielberg ("Catch Me If You Can"), and Sam Raimi ("The Quick and the Dead"). Working with any one of those names would give you some boost of credibility, but the fact that he's also fostered a working relationship with the legendary Martin Scorsese across six (soon to be seven with "Devil in the White City") films in two decades is a real feather in his cap. And now DiCaprio's next big role comes to us courtesy of one of our...

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights (1997) is one of the seminal works of the industry. Understandably, Leonardo DiCaprio would regret turning down the leading role that was offered to him by the director after seeing him in The Basketball Diaries. In his stead, DiCaprio suggested Basketball Diaries co-star Mark Wahlberg to be cast as the lead, since he had already signed on to do Titanic.
When asked about it later, DiCaprio revealed in a 2008 GQ interview that he regretted turning down one in favor of the other: “I think they’re both great and wish I could have done them both.” More recently, he sat down directly with P.T. Academy Award-winning star Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed which high-profile project he regrets not participating in. While he's been known for staying away from franchises, he's rarely talked about the roles he regrets passing on, regardless of the reason. In a recent interview, the Inception actor says the only movie he regrets not doing is the epic about the adult film industry starring Mark Wahlberg, Boogie Nights.
Perhaps DiCaprio's pick for biggest regret was influenced by the person who was interviewing him. The Killers of the Flower Moon performer recently sat down to chat with famed director Paul Thomas Anderson in a piece published by Esquire magazine. Anderson, the director of Boogie Nights as well as DiCaprio's upcoming film One Battle After Another, began the interview by asking the star if he had any regrets. The actor's answer was the following:
"I'll say it even though you're here: My biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, opens in theaters on September 26. Being one of the most anticipated new TV shows of the summer, expectations were high for Alien: Earth following a slew of incredible trailers and critical praise. Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 93%, the series made its long-awaited debut on FX and Hulu yesterday with a two-episode premiere, and while critics might have nothing but good things to say about it, the show's audience score proves you can't please everyone.
Hitting Rotten Tomatoes with a 78% rating from fans, things could certainly be a lot worse for Alien: Earth. It's nowhere near the low ratings of others in the franchise, like Alien Resurrection, which has just a 39% rating from the audience, or Alien 3, which sits at 46%. Still, with as much hype and praise as the series had from critics, one would think that it would've managed to at least reach Verified Hot status early on, and while it can certainly still achieve that feat,...
