About Me

My photo
London, United Kingdom, United Kingdom
A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

AHPC XIII - 12th Submission

I only had the one figure submitted as an entry this week - an old school early 1980s Hobgoblin by Citadel. I submitted it for the 1980s (or retro) studio.

Full post here

That leaves me with just two studios - World Cinema and Historical Drama - to visit to have done something for every studio. I've got figures I can use for both of them, and I should be able to get them done this week, leaving me free to focus on finishing the Type S and some extras to go with it until the end of the Challenge.

Speaking of the Type S, I'm almost done with the hull pieces:

Just a few details left to do, then some touch-ups and varnishing. I also need to hit all the interior pieces with a coat of matt varnish before I assemble the ship.

Wednesday Workbench 01 February 2023

The Gallic cavalry are almost done, with just a quick drybrush and adding static grass left to finish the basing - a job for tomorrow morning.

While waiting for the basing steps to dry, I've made a start on a trio of figures for the Fantasy studio:

I've got the base colours down on all of them and will be finishing them off tomorrow.

AHPC X Day 15 - Third Submission

My third submission has been posted: link

I am (for now) in 18th place, and thanks to the bonus points from my first submission I am on track for my 1300 point target.

I'm hoping to have my fourth submission finished tomorrow:

They are mostly done; I've just got some shading/highlighting (mainly the metals), detailing and flocking to do. When these are out of the way, I think I'll switch to the extras for my WW2 British Airborne - probably about a week's work to paint up, but a good amount of points.

Wednesday Workbench 30 October

Progress has been grindingly slow over the past few days as this lurgy keeps coming and going. I've also had to spend a fair bit of time visiting various pharmacies to see if they are able to get hold of one of my prescriptions - without joy as it seems that none of the suppliers have any in stock for them to order in. I'm currently waiting for my GP to get in touch about amending my prescription; hopefully they won't take too long as I'll be running out in less than two weeks.

However, I was able to combine my search with a bit of shopping and found these chaps in Poundland:

They should make some useful terrain for fantasy or pirate games.

But back to the workbench!

I've finally finished painting the support weapons for my Paras; I'll be doing the varnishing tomorrow and gluing the Vickers MMGs onto the gunners' bases:

I've also textured the bases of the Foundry Paras I had bought at SELWG, assembled the hand carts, added some extra details to the jeeps and trailer and a 2" mortar to one of the paras:

Hmm, seems I missed a bit of mould-line on the beret...

Here's a slightly better look at the dragoons, lizardmen and combat droids:

I've also finished prepping the barbarian horde. The infantry and one mount have been glued onto bases:

A couple of the infantry needed pinning. The cavalry are also prepped, but I need to order some 60x30mm oval bases for them as they are slightly too big to go on 50x25mm ones. I've also ordered a few more figures to make up the units to the correct numbers for Dragon Rampant - I should end up with plenty of options for games.

As I have the spray booth out to do the varnishing tomorrow, I'll probably leave it up afterwards and get  all of these primed.

Howl's Your Day Been?

Sorry - I couldn't resist the pun :)

I had thought that I would have finished the basing and flocking on Tuesday, but various things got in the way. However, over the past three days I've been doing a little bit here, a little bit there and they are finally finished.

I hadn't noticed while I was prepping them, but there were only three poses (four of each), so I had to do a bit more work in the painting and washes to introduce some variety. They've come out quite nicely.

Some close-ups of a single base:

These figures are 28mm from Blue Moon. They will be joining the Dragon Rampant wolf pack I painted up during this year's Challenge.

Challenge Day 42 - Lots Going On

It's been busy, busy, busy at my paint desk the last few days. I finished off the basing on the 6mm Reb artillery, finished painting and based the wolves and got a few other things done as well.

The Aztec Jaguar warriors and pumas have been posted

So have the 6mm Reb artillery

As have the wolves.

With all of these submissions in, I looked toward my next project. I've decided to paint up some "irregular cavalry" for my Koreans and decided that if I was going to be doing horses, I might as well do some mounted commanders as well. Early this afternoon I primed the figures that hadn't been done. After this post, I'll be doing the base colour for the horses.

While the primer was drying, I decided to do some small bits of work. I fancied doing a quick paint of a single figure before commencing with the mass of cavalry and a quick root around in my project drawers unearthed a couple of Mordheim figures that I'd won in a blog prize draw a couple of years back. I had prepped and primed them at some point.

I also picked out a figure I will be submitting for the Nautical bonus theme round. This was another freebie, this time from Anne. I decided to extend the deck planking effect from the figure's base to cover the whole base as it would look better. I made up some Milliput and squidged it onto the base. Possibly a bit too thickly, but it will do. Since taking the pic above (ie once the Millput had cured) I have lightly sanded the Milliput and carved in the planking effect. Although the figure had previously been primed white, I will be spray priming it black tomorrow.

I've also painted and submitted one of the Mordheim figures, but it isn't up at the time of writing. You'll have to wait and see which one it was.

Edit: My fourth submission of the week is up!

Challenge Day 23 - 2nd Blogday Prize Draw

And it's time for the Prize Draw!!!!!!

As I couldn't post pics of the prize the lucky winner will receive until after Curt had posted the Villain bonus theme entries this draw has had to be delayed.

However, the villain bonus theme entries are up now, so all can be revealed....

I had great fun painting this figure and writing the text to go with the entry. I know it's already been posted on Curt's blog, but I'll post it here again for anyone who doesn't frequent it (and shame on you for not frequenting Curt's blog during the Challenge!).

ps - Don't forget to vote for your favourite villains. Mine is one of your favourites isn't it?

FOLLOWING MY SUCCESSFUL INFILTRATION INTO THE OGRE KINGDOM OF SANDBAGGING I QUICKLY LOCATED THE LAIR OF BADGER. IT IS A CAVE AT GRID COORDINATES 31415/92654, SET INTO A CLIFF.

36 HOURS INTO MY SURVEILLANCE I OBSERVED A SHADY FIGURE EMERGING FROM THE CAVE. A LOW RES NIGHT-VIS IMAGE WAS TRANSMITTED TO HQ FOR CONFIRMATION THAT THIS WAS THE TARGET. HQ CONFIRMED IDENTITY AS BADGER AND I MAINTAINED SURVEILLANCE.

24 HOURS LATER BADGER RETURNED TO THE CAVE AND EMERGED AGAIN AFTER 72 HOURS. WITH THE TARGET BEING CONFIRMED, HIGH RES COLOUR IMAGES WERE ACQUIRED.

BADGER WAS ON BOTH OCCASIONS CARRYING A LARGE, HEAVY SACK. THE HIGH RES IMAGES REVEALED WRITING ON THE SACK "APC 2014 SEND 20/03".

OK, that's enough silliness! This figure is a 28mm Ogre Lord from Dark Art Studios (http://www.dark-art-studios.co.uk/dark-art-studios_shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_6&products_id=54).

I did a little bit of conversion work with Milliput. The spiked hammer head was left off and replaced with what is meant to be the ferrule and bristles of a paint brush. For the right hand I fashioned a full sandbag. I also made up a backdrop for the photos.

Pics of Anne's Cleavage (And Some Updates)

OK, to be more accurate, pics of cleavage painted by Anne!

This lovely young lady was a gift she sent me via Fran. I would have received it a few weeks ago if I'd been able to make it to BlogCon. I'm pleased as punch to add such a wonderfully painted figure to my collection.

She also sent me this figure from Reaper, which looks as though it will be great fun to paint.

And now for the updates....

15mm Swiss Halberdiers

I finished prepping these during my lunch break on Thursday and primed them with gesso this afternoon.

28mm Berserkers

I prepped these yesterday and primed them this afternoon with Vellejo black surface primer.

28mm Mordheim(?) Figures

I received these two figures in a prize draw on someone's blog several months ago (or did someone gift them to me?). Anyway, these were prepped at the same time as the berserkers and primed with Vallejo white surface primer this afternoon.

NSL Fleet

Last night I got one batch of ships prepped, washed and assembled. I spray primed them this evening. The other batch got washed today and are now on long flight pegs ready for priming tomorrow.

Batch 1

2 Helgoland heavy cruisers; 4 Danzig class escort cruisers

2 Frankfurt class escort cruisers; 3 Nibelung class corvettes

Batch 2
2 Rommel class attack cruisers; 2 Kiel class light cruisers; 4 Emden class light cruisers; 2 Pola class frigates

I'm going to try to prep and prime the rest of the fleet this week. I'll probably go for a pretty basic dark grey colour scheme for these, with some panels picked out in a military green.

15mm Sci Fi - Heavy Grav Tanks and APCs

I've clearly had a busy afternoon and evening. As well as everything else, I also got round to finishing these vehicles from Critical Mass Games. They are from the ARC Fleet range. The bases were tufted and flocked, the vehicles sprayed with matt varnish and then glued to the bases. I'm quite pleased with how they've come out. After taking the photos, I added some magnetic sheet to the bases for storage and transport.

Grav APCs

Heavy Grav Tanks

Tipped to show the detailing of the  anti-grav units

Well, that's an awful lot of photos for one post, but they do show an awful lot of work that I've managed to get done since Wednesday.
