Crimespreecinema has the news that Paddy Considine & Jason Statham are set to star in a movie adaptation of Ken Bruen's novel 'Blitz.' Elliott Lester is attached to direct Blitz from a script by Nathan Parker (Moon), Statham is to play Brant, a rather crude, un-pc, borderline sociopath of a cop and Considine will be playing Sergeant Porter Nash, an openly gay cop that works with the homophobic Brant.

The synopsis is, in the fast-moving follow-up to the White Trilogy, the south-east London police squad are suffering collective burnout: with tragic deaths, excessive habits, uncontrollable anger and the wrong kind of friendships, the team never had it so bad. When a serial killer takes his show on the road, things get progressively worse. Nicknamed 'The Blitz,' a vicious murderer is aiming for tabloid glory by killing cops. Harold Dunphy, Ace crime reporter, thinks he's on to the story of the decade, and the police have all the incentive they need to catch their criminal - before they get caught first!

Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham are to star in The Expendables, an action film about a team of mercenaries.

The Hollywood Reporter says they could be joined by Jet Li, who is in final negotiations for the project.

Stallone has written the screenplay and will also direct and had this to say about the project:

"Making films with Nu Image/Millennium gives me as the director the opportunity to make the films I envision. I am happy to be partnering with them again and am looking forward to working with Jason and Jet."

The story follows a team of "expendables" sent to a South American country to overthrow a dictator and liberate its people. Filming will take place in Costa Rica and Louisiana from February.

Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham and 50 Cent have signed on to star opposite Sam Riley in 13, director Gela Babluani's remake of his French-language film 13 Tzameti, reports Variety.

13 is about a destitute immigrant worker who steals an envelope containing instructions for a mysterious job that could pay out a fortune. Following the instructions, the young man unwittingly becomes trapped in a dark and dangerous situation.
