The Weeds Came Tumbling Down
Monday Bonus Day.
Last Friday I accidentally used a set of Steve Roper Sundays I had already shown a couple of weeks ago. I had linked to it on the Steve Roper facebook page so I couldn't remove it. But here are the Tumbleweeds Sundays I should have put up instead. If you go back using the link, you will see I have already shown a large portion of the 1970 Tumbleweeds Sundays. And if no one stops me, I will be doing most of 197a and 1972 as well.

As often as I can, I try to share some of my new Tumbleweeds scans from the earliest period. This week I managed to clean six of them. They were printed quite light and it is not always possible to recreate the colors as well as I think they should be.

The Wild, Wild Weed

Like last week I want to share a couple of Tumbleweeds Sunday I like to share. I will be doing this in small portions, because the full lot of early years of this strip I have prove t be hard to clean up. Tom Ryan used a very thin line, that breaks up easily and form some reason this lot of scans seems to have more problems with the moire effect (the random patterns you can get when scanning a dot printed strip). also, like B.C. it has the additional problem that most of the drawings or panels are very open, so that when you remove the yellow paper color, lots of other stuff disappears as well. Thankfully the scans come out better here then when I am working on them, but every once in a while there will be one that works a little less. A couple of weeks ago Tom K. Ryan passed away. A lot can be said about the man and his career, but let's have a look at some of his work first. I have two whole of years of early Sunday of his strip Tumbleweeds, so let's start there.

Two early Tumbleweeds and two that are slightly later. I'd have to check, but it seems as if the earliest Sundays may nog have had a three tier version but a two tier version that could be used in a half tabloid. It's amazing how soon T. K. Ryan found his style and stuck with it. I did those first two before, but wanted to show them because of the difference in format.
