Saturday Leftover Day.
This week I showed some work by Roy Doty. Some of the visitors pointed out several of Doty's books and illustrations that they remembered from their childhood. For me, he is best know from his work on the Sunday only newspaper panel related to The Laugh-In Show. Not from my youth, but because I got a huge amount of them. I have show some before and here are some more. It has been noted that the strip was hurt because it did not feature the cast of the television show. But if you look at it wtjout that ssociation, it is a pretty funny strip and probably one of the most Mad-like you'll find in the history of newspaper comics.

Un-Doty-bly
Wednesday Illustration Day.
Roy Doty did a lot of spot illustratios for various magazines. He was one of the artists promoting the 'mdern' style that would overtale alal cartooning in the sixties. Not unlike the more artistic Jim Flora, he has not been remembered as well. Only a few collectors know his name, but in the fifties he was everywhere. His biggest claim to fame for us comic collector types would be his run on the tv spinoff Laugh-In Sunday panel in the early seventies. I am cleaning up a larger lot of them, but here are some I did earlier (again).

A Lot Of Doty
Monday Cartoon Day.
Here are some more Sundays of the Laugh-In comic strip by recently deceased cartoonist Roy Doty. I have shown a different lot of `Sundays before and at that occasion some of my commenters noted that a. there was a daily version as wel and b. that the strip itself was probably hurt by the fact that Doty was allowed to use the name of the television program, but not the likeness of the actors.

LOL-IN
Monday Cartoon Day.
In the late sixties, Laugh-In wasn't only a fastpaced gagbased sketch program, but also a Sunday only gagbased newspaper strip by Roy Doty. Doty was a popular cartoonist in his day. So popular in fact, that he pretty soon became old hat and a representatvive of his age. And since his age ran into the seventies, Laugh-In as about the best example of his talents you can find.

Seven Gags A Week
Monday Cartoon Day
When I showed some of John Stees' Sunday gag collections, I mentioned the fact that he wasn't the first or the last to produce such a Sunday feature. I have already shown some of Gaham Wilson's pages last year. There were the long running pages by George Lichty and Ed Reed's Off The Record. There even was a Laugh In daily and Sunday, which I am showing here with another favorite of mine: Arnold Roth's Poor Arnold's Almanac.
I actually have quite few of these, but I haven't scanned them in for two reasons; first of all, my samples are from the Winnipeg newspaper that did their own color and bad as it is on other strips, it leaves nothing of Arnold Roth's beauty and secondly, there was a comlete reprinting of all strips (in black and white, but from the best of line art possible) by Fantagraphics in 1998. I had a look at their website, but they are offering it now for slightly over $8 and I urge you to go there and buy it, before they run out and you end up payning $30 or more for it in a couple of years. When I came across these two vibrantly colored samples last week, I just had to show them to you. I have added a color sample of Stees Sees and the aforementioned Laugh In.
