This afternoon, I have released this week's batch of plugin updates.
This batch consists of new releases of ClassWizard, SQL, and
TomcatSwitch.

* ClassWizard 0.5.1: documentation changes and bugfixes (John Urbas);
  jEdit 4.0pre1 and JDK 1.3

* SQL 0.94: problem with the plugin initialization should be fixed;
  significant cleanup on Sybase SqlVFS (Feliks Kerzhner, Sybase code
  maintainer); requires jEdit 4.0pre8, CommonControls 0.2, ErrorList
  1.2, Sessions 0.7.3, XML 0.8, and JDK 1.3

* TomcatSwitch 0.6: the restart command works; the "General" option
  panel has a new "HTTP port" field that is used to verify if a server
  is actually listening (this is used by the status command for
  informational purposes and by the start/stop/restart commands to avoid
  synchronization problems; the default setting is "UNKNOWN"); all error
  messages are directed to the console, no more dialogs; completely
  revised the text and color of the console messages; removed status
  information from the console identification message; requires jEdit
  4.0pre2, Console 3.1, and JDK 1.3; works with Jakarta Tomcat 3.2.x,
  3.3.x, or 4.x

This weekend, I have released a small batch of 4 updated plugins:
LineGuides 0.5.3 (mike dillon), TextTools 1.8 (updates by Nathan
Tenney), TomcatSwitch 0.5.2 (Amedeo Farello), and VSSPlugin 0.1.1
(Stuart Barlow).

* LineGuides 0.5.3: fixed problems with split views (bugs #529823 and
  #539117); requires jEdit 4.0pre4 and JDK 1.3

* TextTools 1.8: added "Columnar Insert" command (Nathan Tenney);
  requires jEdit 4.0pre1 and JDK 1.3

* TomcatSwitch 0.5.2: fixed a bug introduced with version 0.5.1 that
  prevented execution under systems different from Windows; requires
  jEdit 4.0pre2, Console 3.1, and JDK 1.3; works with Jakarta Tomcat
  3.2.x, 3.3.x or 4.x

* VSSPlugin 0.1.1: fixed class name bug in actions.xml; requires jEdit
  4.0final and JDK 1.3

Hey there folks-

Here is a batch of new plugins for jEdit 4.0. There are 5 updates:
Console 3.2.1 (Slava Pestov), JSwatPlugin 1.1.6 (updated by Stefano
Maestri), SpeedJava 0.2 (Jim Wissner), TomcatSwitch 0.5.1 (Amedeo
Farello), and XML 0.8.1 (Slava Pestov). There are 3 initial releases:
Vimulator 0.1.0 (mike dillon), VSSPlugin 0.1 (Stuart Barlow), and XSLT
0.1 (Greg Merrill). All of these plugins require jEdit 4.0.

* Console 3.2.1: the Plugins->Console->Commando command didn't work; the
  buttons on the commando tool bar didn't work; Plugins->Console->Rescan
  Commando Directory command only updated the commando tool bar, not the
  Console menu; added two new public methods:
  ConsolePlugin.getSystemShellVariableValue() and
  ConsolePlugin.expandSystemShellVariables(); fixed OpenJade error
  pattern; hidden files in commando directories are now ignored;
  requires jEdit 4.0pre8, ErrorList 1.2, and JDK 1.3

* JSwatPlugin 1.1.6: updated for jEdit 4.0 (Stefano Maestri); requires
  jEdit 4.0pre7, CommonControls 0.2, and JDK 1.3

* SpeedJava 0.2: updated for jEdit 4.0; increased stability over
  previous versions; requires jEdit 4.0pre7 and JDK 1.3

* TomcatSwitch 0.5.1: pathnames can now contain spaces
  [jedit-Bugs-540129]; requires jEdit 4.0pre2, Console 3.1, and JDK 1.3

* Vimulator 0.1.0: initial Plugin Central release; new plugin by mike
  dillon; provides VI-style modal editing capabilities for jEdit; this
  is an ALPHA release: expect the unexpected, please avoid bug reports
  for now (most bugs are known); requires jEdit 4.0pre7 and JDK 1.3

* VSSPlugin 0.1: initial Plugin Central release; new plugin by Stuart
  Barlow; provides integrated VSS check-in and check-out under jEdit;
  requires jEdit 4.0final and JDK 1.3

* XML 0.8.1: parse XML Buffer and Parse on Keystroke menu item commands
  didn't work; fixed bad interaction between 4.0pre7's
  MiscUtilities.constructPath() method and Xerces path handling;
  entering a / inside a tag will no longer cause problems; JSP
  constructs (like <%= ... %>) are no longer recognized as tags; tag
  completion now correctly handles DTDs that define elements with
  content ANY; fixed possible ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException in
  SAXParser.Handler.findTagStart(); requires jEdit 4.0pre4, ErrorList
  1.2.1, and JDK 1.3

* XSLT 0.1: initial Plugin Central release; new plugin by Greg Merrill;
  source doc/stylesheet selections are now persistent; added "Transform"
  and "Evaluate" actions to perform the currently selected
  transformation and execute the current XPath expression, respectively;
  the XSLT Processor now works with files rather than buffers; requires
  jEdit 4.0pre7, XML 0.8.1, and JDK 1.3; includes Xalan

jEdit 4.0 is now available from <http://www.jedit.org>.

jEdit 4.0 is a significant upgrade to 3.2; the major version number has
been increased as several parts of the editor have been rewritten for
improved performance, reduced memory footprint, and greater possibility
for future extension.

* Incompatible changes

- jEdit now requires Java 2 version 1.3 or later. It will no longer work
  with Java 1.1 or Java 2 version 1.2.

- Some aspects of the plugin API have changed; make sure your installed
  plugins are their latest versions.

- If you added macros to the context menu or tool bar, or assigned
  shortcuts to macros using jEdit 3.2.2 or earlier, you will need to
  recreate those settings after upgrading to jEdit 4.0 since the way
  macros are handled internally has changed.

- Clicking the middle mouse button no longer inserts the most recently
  selected text by default. This can be enabled in the 'Text Area' pane
  of the Utilities->Global Options dialog box.

- Two minor changes to the default shortcuts:

  S+BACK_SPACE is now CS+BACK_SPACE (Delete to Start of Line)
  S+DELETE is now CS+DELETE (Delete to End of Line)

* Major user-visible changes

- Rewritten buffer code: this results in decreased memory footprint,
  faster file loading, _much_ faster directory search, and more.

- Rewritten folding code. Fold visibility can now be changed on a
  per-text area basis, and "explicit" folding (where the buffer is
  parsed for "{{{" and "}}}") is now supported, in addition to the old
  "indent" folding. Plugins can add their own folding modes as well.

- Soft wrap has been added. The old "hard" wrap is still present as a
  configurable option.

- Bracket matching now indicates the bracket scope in the gutter.

- Many improvements in the file system browser, among them coloring of
  the file list based on file name patterns, and persistent tree
  expansion state when a directory is reloaded.

- A framework is in place for context-sensitive editing features;
  currently, the commenting commands use it to behave differently
  depending on where the caret is positioned in a buffer, for example,
  in HTML text or inline JavaScript.

- The window docking feature has been improved in terms of functionality
  and appearance.

- Syntax highlighting has been added for the following file types:

  - ActionScript
  - BBj
  - BibTeX
  - Informix 4-GL
  - Modula-3
  - ObjectRexx
  - Prolog
  - SmallTalk

* Other user-visible improvements

There are many smaller improvements as well, too many to list here, but
some of the more noteworthy ones are:

- 'Complete Word' command now completes mode-specific keywords, in
  addition to previously typed text.

- Search and Replace usability improvements.

- Better integration with MacOS X; jEdit now knows about type and
  creator codes.

- Unicode files are automatically detected and opened as such.

- If "quick copy" is enabled, dragging with the middle mouse button
  creates a selection without moving the caret. When the mouse button is
  released the selected text is inserted at the caret position and the
  selection is deactivated.

  The quick copy feature is disabled by default, but can be enabled in
  the 'Text Area' pane of the Utilities->Global Options dialog box.

- The font used to display user interface elements can now be changed in
  the new 'Appearance' pane of the Utilities->Global Options dialog box.

- jEdit Frequently Asked Questions document, by John Gellene, is now
  included as part of the online help.

- BeanShell 1.2b5 is included; this version fixes a number of bugs
  present in 1.2b1 (which was bundled with jEdit 3.2.2).

- jEdit now has better support for Java 2 version 1.4.

last pre-release before 4.0final is released in about a week's time.

- The plugin manager now downloads the plugin list in GZipped format
  from the server. This should especially be noticable for dial-up users
- Minor search bar layout tweak
- The roots: filesystem should now show extra information when running
  on Windows with JDK 1.4 (eg, you should able to see the UNC paths of
  network drive mappings)

- Fixed QuickNotepad build.xml
- Explicit folding did not behave correctly if a line contained both the
  start and end strings ({{{ and }}}) (Ollie Rutherfurd)
- If a plugin depended on a plugin whose jEdit version requirement was
