File Read Test is a tool that reads disk files or directories and stops on the first read error. A second tool, Quick Disk Test, fills a disk with test data and verifies that it can be read back without errors.

SortPhotos is a Python-based command-line utility that organizes photos and videos into structured directories based on their date and time metadata. namefix.pl is a cross-platform batch file renaming utility first released in 2006. It automates the cleanup of large sets of filenames using regular expressions and configurable rules. Features include handling of whitespace, punctuation, extensions, directory processing, safe overwrite checks, and dry-run mode. Both command-line and Tk GUI interfaces are provided. The project was created by Jacob Jarick and is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

I have written this short script to correct vowel mutation (Umlaut) errors in filenames. This errors typically occur when you copy files to a system with UTF-8 charset from a system using another charset. One typical case is when a Windows-Client transfers files via FTP on a server using UTF-8. Such errors can't be corrected using convmv.

cdu (for Color du) is a perl script which call du and display a pretty histogram with optional colors which allow to imediatly see the directories which take disk space. With only one directory argument, cdu reports the disk space for all subdirectories of the given directory. You can also call du with no predefined options.
