Rick Ruby takes your questions #3

It appears to me that our country, let alone the rest of the world, ain't in the best
of shape right now. When do you think things will get better? -- Fed Up in Chicago

If you walk the same streets I do and see the same folks I do everyday, you find it hard to think things'll ever get better, but hey, you gotta have hope, right? Besides, when you've managed to live through the mess (we'll just leave it at that for now) I've been through, you start to wonder if anything, and I do mean anything can really lay you low. I've faced it all -- bullets, Nazis, jealous dames, jealous husbands, conniving singers, and more than a few years in the alleys myself (and I don't mean the swanky dives that My Man Godfrey hung out in) -- so I like to think of myself as something of a survivor. And, well, if a two-bit flunky like me can survive, I figure most anybody can.

Rick Ruby takes your questions #2

Do you ever plan to settle down and get married? -- Sweet Thing in New York

If you'da asked me that questions even two years ago, I'da told you no way, never. But after the scrapes I've seen in the past few years, it does make a man rethink his choices a bit.

The trouble is I got too many ladies around who all have a lot -- a helluva lot -- to offer. There's Donna and her... well, let's just say legs and keep it safe for the kids. Then there's Carla, and I'm sure nothing would make her happier than settlin' down, but even knowing her daddy's money could keep me fat and satisfied for a long time, I think I'd miss the action. The danger, I mean. And sweet little Edie, she's more like a kid sister, but damn if she isn't filling out in all the right places. Enough to make a man reconsider his options, if you know what I mean. And of course, and here's where it gets complicated, there's Evelyn. She's got it all, the looks, the figure, the excitement, and I'm damn sure she loves me, but there ain't no way we could ever get away with it. Not in our world.

In the short run, no. Doesn't look like I'll be able to settle down.

In the long run, who knows.

Rick Ruby takes your questions #1

Hey, Rick, what's your favorite sidearm? -- Gun Guy in New York

I favor the
Colt Match .38, and I keep two of them on me at all times. But sometimes when I need a bigger punch, I do like the feel of my Sweet Angel, my sawed-off Springfield 315 12-gauge double barrel shotgun. She's really my best girl, in all the ways that count. (Even though I know admitting that will get me in trouble with a few gals I know.)
