I liked the idea of this so I’m giving it a whirl.
Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack.
Never snack, but depending on the time of day, I’ll either be drinking coffee, ice water, or a soda(Coke Zero, Diet Mt. Dew, or Diet Coke).
Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I never mark in a book. A scary thought.
How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears?
Bookmark. I shudder at the thought of creasing a page.
Laying the book flat open?
I like the feel of a book in my hands. The whole idea of a Kindle, for example, turns me off.
Fiction, nonfiction, or both?
Mostly fiction. The type of nonfiction I like is by writers, either about the process or remembrances about their careers.
Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
It varies. Most I can put down at any point, though occasionally you find find a book that won’t allow you to put it down. Suddenly you find hours have gone by and you’re at the end.
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
Never. Rarely do I find one that I can’t understand from it’s usage in the passage.
What are you currently reading?
Heat Wave by Richard Castle
Ballroom In The Skies by John D. MacDonald
What is the last book you bought?
The Last Gunfighter: Sudden Fury
Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
Most of the time more than one. I tend to read a book of short stories one or two at a time between novels. Sometimes two novels at the same time, one kept beside the bed for night time or the occasional online novel.
Do you have a favorite time/place to read?
Not really. When I used to get out of the house more, I always had a book with me. I remember one embarrassing moment when I went into a book store forgetting I had one in my jacket pocket. When called on it by the proprietor, I had to show him it was a bit beat up for me to be stealing it.
Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
It seems these days I read more series books, though I have certain authors I love who don’t do them.
Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
James Rollins
Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child: any of their collaborations or their solo works
John Scalzi
How do you organize your books?(by genre, title, author’s last name, etc.)
A book case beside the bed holds my TBR pile(though it’s bursting at the seams). besides that, most are now packed away in boxes(it’s a long story).
