Mushroom sampling was carried out in a dependency of the Department of Legal Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile. Air samples of 50 liters were considered in 4 points of the room and a sample of 50 liters from the outside corridor. Samples were taken with an Air IDEAL® Biomerieux plate air impactor.
Despite the small sample volume per point (50 liters), the capacity of the equipment was exceeded, saturating the impactor. What allowed to establish that the sampled area presents a total fungal load> 32,642 CFU / m (colony forming units / cubic meter) considered a value of acute overexposure.
The characteristic reference values for residential areas fluctuate between 10 to 490 CFU / m, depending on the season and conditions of the property. In open spaces the fungal load can vary between 150 and 250 CFU / m. So the area of bones is considered highly contaminated and high risk to health.
Table 3 shows the results obtained, indicating the fungal load for each of the species identified in the sampling room and the corridor area. Due to the saturation of the instrument, these values are only referential and should not be considered as absolute values. The genus Penicillium predominated in all the samples.
