Description
SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING OF SERVICES, IN PARTICULAR SALE OF GOODS, ORDERING OF SERVICES AND PROVISION OF BETTING SERVICES.
Technical field
The invention relates to a system for buying goods and betting by means of a cable television operator.
State of the art
At present purchase of goods is most commonly carried out in shops, so called "physical stores" by means of cash or cashless form of payment.
Purchase of goods chosen on the basis of notices, offer letters, advertisements is another option.
Cashless purchase of goods by means of public computer networks (internet sales) is constantly expanding; thanks to it, purchase of goods and payment operations simplify and speed up.
Purchase of goods on the basis of advertising and marketing programmes aired by television is also known. Based on published information a viewer can order offered goods by telephone or in writing.
An effort to facilitate purchase of goods was reflected mainly into replacement of cash payments by cashless payments by means of various types of payment cards. Systems of non-cash payments by payment cards are described in e.g. CZ patent application PV 2334-97, in the British patent applications nos. 2 276 258 and 2 283 349, European patent applications EP 0 807 910 A2, EP 0 855 687 and others.
The system for electronic cashless purchase of goods and services by means of payment cards is described in patent file SK 284 504. The subject-matter of the invention is the system for electronic cashless purchase of goods and services by
means of payment cards, or alternatively over a public computer network, containing a seller operator cluster, at minimum one goods or service supplier cluster, a payment card bank operation cluster and a payment card holder cluster.
EP1429273A1 describes the method of product purchase through broadcasting of satellite TV, wherein the TV signal as well as advertised products data are transmitted through satellite broadcasting as a composite signal. In order to proceed with the purchase additional connection to the internet, over which the orders are transmitted, is necessary. On the customer's side a special device capable of separating the TV signal from the offered products data is necessary. Goods offered for sale are based on the viewer's geographical position, wherein GPS localization equipment is necessary for determining the viewer's position.
PP50034-2010 describes the system and the method of cashless payment when purchasing by means of a television channel. Display equipment, for example in the form of a television receiver is equipped with a NFC reader, which signal is available on the surface of the body of the display unit. A payment for the purchased item is effected so that a payment terminal application, preferably of an EMV standard, is carried out on a removable memory card and the resulting payment cryptogram is sent from the display unit (1), whence it is through an existing wiring of the TV signal receiver sent to the central control unit for processing.
At present betting for numbers and similar wagers are the most commonly laid in betting offices using on-line terminals.
Another possibility is laying wagers by means of a mobile telephone. The internet also offers several possibilities of wagering and betting on football and other events. Utility model no. 3522 describes wagering by means of the mobile telephone having a text messaging service activated.
Utility model 3682 describes the electronic system for number and guessing lotteries, which is characterised in containing a mobile station with an active text messaging service in a GSM operator network. The GSM operator network is used as the
communication system between a bettor and the system for processing bets. The GSM system for processing bets, which by means of a data network and of the application interface is connected to an IVR system, is fundamental. Within activation of gaming the bettor establishes an account that shall be created in the payment systems of the gaming operator. Payments for placed wagers are deducted from the player's account.
Utility model 4024 deals with the connection of the electronic system for instant lottery games with additional drawing of lots. A GSM mobile operator network with transmission of short text messages (SMS) in the communication transmission is used for the communication system. Equipment for processing of the instant lottery is located on the other end of the communication transmission. The subject-matter is that the device for identification of the participant in the game and after delivering a code, which unambiguously identifies a purchased lottery ticket, is in general a mobile station with an active SMS at the GSM operator. A network communication SMS server application in a processing centre is the basis of the electronic system. The processing centre is connected to the existing GSM operators and provides communication to a single number and surveillance over the application. The network SMS server is connected to the Registration and payment portal of the gaming provider via a message sending terminal - Message Broker and the network SMS server is also connected via either wired or wireless means through an application interface for an access to the SMS centre (SMSC) of the GSM operator, wherein the transmission capacity should not be lower than 128 kb/s. The application interface of the SMS server is hence connected to the SMS centre of the GSM operator.
Utility model 5335 deals with the electronic system for on-line access to games by means of mobile networks, which is characterised in the system, which comprises a mobile network operator service application containing a registration unit, through which a participant over a mobile communication device expresses their approval to access the game, and a payment unit, through which participant's handling of a win is provided, wherein the said service application is connected to the service application of the gaming provider; the system further contains mobile communication equipment, communication channels and the database unit. In addition to the
referred, the system further comprises a status change registration unit connected to the service application, cancelling registration unit of the mobile communication device connected to the service application, wager inputting or cancelling unit connected to the service application, wherein at least one communication channel is the secured mobile network channel.
EP 1134678 A1 describes the betting system accessible on-line over the internet. It offers bets received from persons accessing the system via the internet. Each received bet identifies an event or a competition, discipline and probability (odds). Such offers are stored and displayed by the web site operator system. Other persons having an access to the web site can accept one or more of the displayed offers. Funds are automatically transferred between the accounts of participating persons according to the outcome of the competition or event.
Inaccessibility and bad arrangement are disadvantages of the prior art. If someone wishes to make a bet on a certain match or event using existing systems, they have to find a betting office, which will provide the service. Betting offices may not be allocated at a place suitable for a customer, in addition they do not operate non-stop, thus become inaccessible for many bettors in terms of time and location. Another possibility of contemporary systems is creating bets by means of an SMS. The text message as such is limited to 160 characters and many telephones do not have a screen sufficiently large to display such text message well arranged and therefore the informative value thereof is lost. Another way of making a bet is a possibility to use the internet connection and web portals of betting companies, if the bettor has the internet connection at their disposal, which is not necessarily always the case and hence bets become inaccessible.
Time consumption is the major disadvantage of purchasing goods in traditional shops.
Indispensability of the internet connection and a likelihood of misuse of personal and identification data of a customer are the main disadvantages of purchasing over the internet.
A problem of making a note of a telephone number, or other contact data and a following necessity of a telephone or written contact of a customer and a seller are the major disadvantages of purchasing based on television programmes. In doing so there is a likelihood of misuse of personal data and of the payment cards data.
Subject-matter of invention
The said shortcomings of the prior systems of sale of goods are eliminated or significantly reduced by the system of providing services, in particular purchasing goods, ordering services and providing betting services by means of digital cable television according to the present invention.
The subject-matter of the system according to the present invention is that it consists of a TV set connected through a bidirectional connection to a TV Operator of the digital cable television and the TV Operator of the digital cable television is connected through a unidirectional connection to BackOffice and through a bidirectional link connected to AdManager, which processes offers of goods and services and/or through a bidirectional connection to BetService for management of offered betting services. BetService is connected through the bidirectional connection to the External Bet Provider for securing betting related services and the External Bet Provider is through a unidirectional link connected to BiddingSystem. BiddingSystem for entering offers of betting services is by a unidirectional link connected to BetService. AdvertSystem is connected to AdManager through a unidirectional connection and along with it connected to AdManager through another unidirectional link is a system of inventory of orders, goods and services of BackOffice, which is through a bidirectional connection connected to InfoSystem and also through another unidirectional link connected to AdvertSystem.
According to another embodiment AdvertSystem is connected to the electronic means in order to deliver goods or services, wherein the customer's electronic means are through the bidirectional link connected to InfoSystem to track a summary and status of an order.
According to another embodiment a bidirectional connection with the customer's electronic means for tracking their summary of orders is connected to InfoSystem, which is through a bidirectional connection connected to the inventory system of BackOffice.
According to a preferred embodiment a remote control of a customer contains at minimum one button for selecting one of the offered means of shopping of goods or services or betting.
According to another preferred embodiment the remote control of the customer comprises at minimum one button for selecting one of the offered payment methods after confirmation of an order.
After confirming the order the customer can choose one of the offered payment methods using the button of the remote control.
The system according to the present invention is adapted so that the customer is capable of using various methods of payment. The following are examples of suitable payment methods:
• Cash on delivery (courier, parcel, etc.)
• By means of an invoice from a cable operator (the price of the goods is added to the invoice for the services of the operator)
• Card Pay (credit card payment)
• Internet banking
• GSM banking (payment via a text message of the given operator)
• Transfer order (payment to the account - in advance)
• Invoice payment
The system of purchasing goods according to the present invention has several advantages.
Application of non-cash purchase of goods uses the context of a broadcast programme and enables the customer to purchase directly through the screen of a television receiver, be it instantly at the time, when the goods or the service, they are interested in, are presented in the programme. The said unique feature distinguishes the system from other electronic shops, because the customer does not have to leave the television receiver and the purchase can be carried out immediately. In addition, the purchase is effectuated at the time, when they are the most affected by the positive properties of the goods and by emotions presented in the broadcast programme. The system according to the present invention allows not only the sale of tangible product, but also of services, by which we understand electronic data (detailed information, price list delivered to e-mail, etc.). Shortening of the purchase process between the broadcast contents and the purchase itself is the greatest advantage.
The said system represents a new sale channel focused on sale of the products placed in the broadcast programme. Under the broadcast programme we understand commercial spots of advertisers, programmes, series, films, reality shows containing product placement as well as other broadcasting, which does not include advertising content, but can be supported by products sales (e.g. broadcasting for children with a possibility to purchase the broadcast content on other carriers than the television broadcasting - DVD, CD, Blu-ray, etc.)
As an example of offered products the following can be named - cosmetics, decorative cosmetics, white and black goods, home appliance, foodstuff, over-the- counter medicines, clothing, sporting goods, toys, mobile telephones, notebooks, PCs, perfumes, watches, household goods, furniture, CD carriers, DVD carriers, books, subscriptions (magazines, newspaper), etc.
As an example of the offered services the following can be named:
• Ordering a demonstrative drive,
• Detailed information on a product (banks, insurance companies, car manufacturers, etc.),
• Club cards - loyalty programmes (retail chains, clothing stores, chain shops with furniture),
• Price lists delivered to e-mail (car manufacturers, electronics, furniture, etc.),
• Discount vouchers (furniture, electronics, cosmetics, clothing, etc.),
• Interactive competitions (voting, etc.),
• On-line reservations (theatre tickets, concert tickets, etc.).
On a standard basis, sale of services is performed by electronic means, i.e. by sending required information (data) to the e-mail address of the customer, who has expressed their interest in the subject service. In some cases it can be in the form of physical sending of the product.
In addition to being the sales channel, the system according to the subject invention is also a marketing and communication instrument enabling advertisers to use effectively the advertising space. The interaction between viewers and the telecasted programme provides advertisers with a possibility to offer various benefits aiming to attract new customers.
Another advantage of the system is that during watching a regular as well as commercial programme the viewer can decide that they wish to buy some of the goods shown on the screen and order the product by pressing the button on the remote control. The system enables to shop by means of the TV receiver, which nowadays is common in every household, without necessity to install new equipment.
Supplying broader betting possibilities, which are provided by the wagering system by means of digital cable television during telecasting of a programme of the digital cable television (television via the internet protocol) by a television operator, is another aspect of the subject invention. Every customer posses their unique ID provided by the Set-Top-Box, which is a part of the TV set, wherein the TV set is through unidirectional connection controlled by the customer's remote control. The subject-matter of the said system is that it consists of the TV set, which is by a bidirectional means connected to the television operator of the digital cable television and the television operator of the digital cable television is by a bidirectional means connected to a betting service (BetService). The betting service provides the
bidirectional connection to the television operator of the digital cable television as well as the bidirectional connection to the system of the External Bet Provider, where the External Bet Provider is through a unidirectional means connected to the betting service via a submitter of a betting offer (Bidding company employee). The external betting company is also connected through a bidirectional connection to the customer via the internet, telephone or by other means.
The betting service assigned for management of betting offers depending upon type and time of the broadcast television programme and upon the customer, to whom the offer is to be displayed, is through a bidirectional means connected to the cable television operator.
The betting offer submitter providing information on time availability of the betting offer during the broadcast is connected by unidirectional means to the betting service.
The customer is, for example via the internet or by other means, directly connected through a bidirectional means to the external betting company (External Bet Provider) in order to secure financial transactions related to betting.
Application BetService - the betting service uses context of the broadcast programme and enables the customer to send their bet via the screen of the television receiver, be it immediately at the time the offer, they are interested in, is displayed in the programme. The said unique feature distinguishes the system from other electronic betting media, because the customer does not have to leave the television receiver and can place the bet immediately. In addition, they make the bet at the time they are most influenced by emotions presented in the broadcast programme. The system according to the present invention enables not only to wager on an outcome of a match in various types of sports, but also to bet in various types of number lotteries. Visual and technical interconnection of the process between the telecasted content and placing a bet itself is the greatest advantage.
The said system represents a new sales channel focused on wagering related to or resulting from the broadcast programme. Under the broadcast programme we
understand in particular live streaming or recorded sporting events (e.g. football matches, ice- hockey matches, tennis matches, F1 races, and others).
As an example of the offered bets the following can be named: betting on the outcome of a football match (hockey ball, basketball, ...), either on the win of the home or away teams, or on the draw of the match. Another type of the offered bets is predicting a winner in for example a tennis match. Or a prediction of a final position in a race - the position of the F1 racer, or a runner for 100m.
The main advantage of the system is that the viewer can decide while watching a regular or also commercial programme if they want to place a bet for example on a football match, which is currently under way and by pressing the button on the remote control they can wager a certain amount of money. The system enables betting by means of the TV receiver, which is nowadays common in every household, without necessity to install new equipment.
There is no need for lengthy filling of customer's data, such as address for delivery of the goods. The cable television customer is already automatically identified by their cable television operator.
Another substantial advantage is that the purchase system according to the subject invention significantly increases security of the non-cash purchase of goods and reduces a possibility of misuse of data provided to the internet by the customers.

Exemplary embodiment
Example 1
An exemplary embodiment of the system of a sale of goods and services according to the subject invention illustrated on Figure 1 consisting of a TV receiver provided with the Set-Top-Box that jointly form TV set C3, used by a customer by means of a remote control. Via the Set-Top-Box the TV set C3 is connected to TV Operator C4 of the digital cable television. The customer, by their electronic means R2, which in this case is the remote control, controls their TV-set C3 by unidirectional connection P7. AdManager C2, which serves to manage the content of goods and service offers depending upon the type of the broadcast television programme and upon the customer, to which the offer is to be displayed, is connected to TV Operator C4 of the cable television through bidirectional connection P5. Both AdvertSystem 1 providing a list of products and services assigned for sale during telecasting is connected through a unidirectional connection P2 to AdManager C2 and simultaneously also BackOffice CI is connected to it through a unidirectional connection P9. BackOffice C1 keeps a record of sold goods or ordered services in its system. BackOffice CJ. is also by a unidirectional means connected to TV Operator C4 of the digital cable television through connection P8.
According to the subject invention AdvertSystem Rl enters into the system information on offered products or services to BackOffice C± using unidirectional connection £ and simultaneously it enters time schedule (which products or services are to be offered in a defined time interval on which television channel) through connection P2. Before displaying the offer the system verifies if the goods or services can be offered through connection P5.
When watching a programme on a certain channel through connections P6 and P5 the Set-Top-Box automatically sends a message to AdManager C2 about the current
channel the customer is watching together with a unique ID of the user, which is specific for the Set-Top-Box in the system. AdManager C2 by means of TV Operator C4 sends out information through connections P5 and P6 on availability of goods and services for sale through TV Set C3. In case of availability a pictogram on availability of products and services and possibility to purchase appears on the screen. By using the remote control the customer is able to choose some of the offered goods or services related to the broadcast programme. Displaying the pictogram at the appropriate time and the offer of goods and services during the programme is controlled by AdManager C2. In case the customer presses the appropriate button on the remote control for previewing offered goods or services, the Set-Top-Box sends a request by means of TV Operator C4 through connections P6 and P5 to AdManager C2 for a list of products and services relevant to that time, to the television channel and to the customer and the Set-Top-Box displays the list of products or services acquired from AdManager C2 by means of TV Operator C4 through connections P5 and P6. The detailed offer covers a display image in TV Set C3, whereas the telecasting stops or plays in the background with the muted sound. The customer is able to choose from the offered goods or services using navigation buttons on the remote control. Summarising the chosen goods and services together with invoice data. displayed on the screen of the TV receiver, and sending the order to BackOffice C1 through connections P6 and P8 are the next steps. All communication between the customer and TV Set C3 proceeds through connection P7 by pressing the appropriate button on the remote control. In like manner, the customer can select any of the offered payment options for the goods or services. Details of the executed purchase are stored in the system of BackOffice C1_. If the customer has ordered services or goods through their electronic means R2, i.e. the remote control, BackOffice C_l sends detailed information on the order through connection P9 to the provider of the subject service/goods supplier, which in this case is AdvertSystem R1. Consequently, the latter one provides service through connection P10 or makes delivery of the goods to the respective customer.
The customer also has a possibility to overview their orders and status thereof through bidirectional connection P11 accessible through BackOffice CJ. using their electronic means R2, such as computer, tablet, smart telephone and the like.
Example 2
Another example of embodiment of the system of sale of goods and services according to the subject invention is illustrated on Figure 2, which differs from Figure 1 in that BackOffice C± is through bidirectional connection P3 connected directly to InfoSystem C5. InfoSystem C5 provides information on customer's orders or enables to input offered goods or services into the catalogue. BackOffice CI is also by unidirectional means connected directly to television operator C4 of the cable television via connection P8 to the sold goods or services inventory.
AdvertSystem RJ. through unidirectional connection £1 inputs information on offered products or services into InfoSystem C5 and simultaneously makes a time schedule (which products or services are to be offered in a defined time interval and by which television channel) to AdManager C2 through connection P2. Before displaying the offer, the system verifies if it is possible to offer the goods or services through connection P5.
Like in Example 1 , while watching the programme on the certain channel the customer receives an offer and is able to order the offered goods or services. Summarising the chosen goods and services together with invoice data displayed on the screen of the TV receiver and sending the order to BackOffice CJ. through connections P6 and P8 are the next steps. All communication between the customer and TV Set C3 is provided through connection P7 by pressing the appropriate button of the remote control. Details of the executed purchase can be displayed in InfoSystem C5. If the customer has ordered a service or a product by means of the remote control, BackOffice CJ. sends detailed information about the order through connection P9 to the provider of the said service/goods supplier, which in this case is AdvertSystem Rl . Consequently, the latter one provides information on the service or supplies the service through connection P10 or delivers the goods to the respective customer.
Simultaneously, the customer is capable of viewing their orders and the status thereof through bidirectional connection P11 available via InfoSystem C5. Alongside,
the customer is able to view/modify the data on their user's account through the said connection P11.
Example 3
Realization of the betting system according to the subject invention is illustrated on Figure 3 and consists of a TV receiver provided with the Set-Top-Box, which together form TV set C3, which is used by a customer by means of a remote control through unidirectional connection P7. The remote control comprised TV set C3 is connected to television operator C4 of the digital television. BetService C6, which is used to manage betting offers depending upon type and time of the broadcast television programme and upon the customer, to whom the offer is to be displayed, is connected to television operator C4 of the digital cable television through bidirectional connection P14. BiddingSystem R3 is connected by electronic means through unidirectional connection P12 to BetService C6 in order to provide information on time availability of bidding offers during broadcast. BetService C6 is both connected to TV Operator C4 of the digital cable television through bidirectional connection P14 as well as connected to the system of External Bet Provider C7 through bidirectional connection P13.
BiddingSystem R3 according to the subject invention inputs information into the system on when and which bets are to be available.
External Bet Provider C7 serves to acquire detailed information on bets (e.g. current odds, ...) and for wagering itself in the name of the customer, or to acquire information on the account of the subject customer - e.g. on their available credit.
By means of unidirectional connection P12 BiddingSystem R3 enters information on offered bets and simultaneously makes a time schedule thereof (defining a time interval and the television channel, when and where they are to be offered). While watching the programme on the certain channel the Set-Top-Box of TV set C3 automatically sends a message to BetService C6 through connections P6 and P14 on the current channel the customer is watching at the moment together with a unique ID of the user, which is defined by the Set-Top-Box, registered in the system. By means of television operator C4 BetService C6 sends out information through
connections P14 and P6 on availability of betting through TV Set C3. In case of availability a pictogram informing the customer on betting possibility appears on the screen. By using their electronic means R2 - the remote control the customer is able to choose some of the offered betting options. Displaying the pictogram in the certain time during broadcast is controlled by BetService C6. In case the customer presses the appropriate button for displaying offered bets on the remote control, Set-Top-Box of TV set C3 sends a request to BetService C6 for a list of bets relevant to the given time, television channel and the customer by means of TV Operator C4 through connections P14 and P6. BetService C6 acquires the list from the system of External Bet Provider C7 through connection P13 and subsequently sends it to the Set-Top- Box of TV set C3 by means of TV Operator C4 through connections P14 and P6. The Set-Top-Box of TV set C3 displays the said betting list acquired from External Bet Provider C7, whereas the display image in TV Set C3 is covered with a detailed offer, TV image stops or plays in background and the sound is muted. The customer is able to select from offered betting possibilities using navigation buttons on the remote control. Next steps are summarisation together with payment data displayed on the screen of the receiver of TV set C3 and sending confirmation of the bet/bets to External Bet Provider C7 using TV Operator C4 and BetService C6 through connections P6, P14 and P13. After registering and processing (deducting credit of the customer - viewer by the wagered amount, and a possible handling fee) the bet in External Bet Provider C7 the information on the realized bet by the respective customer identified by their ID of the Set-Top-Box is registered in the system of BetService C6 through connection P13 and simultaneously, BiddingSystem R3 can be informed about registering the bet through unidirectional connection P16, as well. All communication between the customer and TV Set C3 is provided through unidirectional connection P7 by pressing the respective button of the remote control. Subsequently, after evaluating the customer's bets External Bet Provider C7 credits the corresponding win to the account of the respective customer.
Payments for bets are blocked in advance from the bettor's account registered in External Bet Provider C7.
After confirmation of the order the customer can choose one of the offered payment methods by pressing the button of the remote control.
The payment for wagering is cleared either by means of deducting a sum from a prepaid credit of the betting customer or by means of deducting the sum from the credit card data entered by them. The customer's account holding information on their bets and remaining credit is maintained at External Bet Provider C7, and so all payments related to betting proceed directly between the customer and External Bet provider C7. Account balance can be viewed directly at the portal of External Bet Provider C7 via connection P15 using electronic means R2 of the customer, such as PC, notebook, smart telephone.
The win is credited in the form of crediting financial cash to the account of the betting customer managed by the system or by crediting the account of the betting customer.
Example 4
Figure 4 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the invention enabling purchase of goods and/or services or betting, depending upon a type of the watched programme and upon the current offer of BiddingSystem R3 and AdvertSystem R1_.
In case of availability a pictogram on obtainability of products and services and possibility to purchase and/or a pictogram informing the customer about betting possibility appear on the screen. By using the customer's remote control, the customer can choose some of the offered options of purchase or betting related to the broadcast programme. The customer's remote control comprises at minimum one button for choosing at minimum one of the said options.
InfoSystem C5 through bidirectional connection P3 sends information about offered products or services into the inventory system of BackOffice Cl_.
Connection P4 between AdManager C2 and BackOffice CJ_ is assigned for determination, which particular goods or services can be offered.
Connection P13 between External Bet Provider C7 and BetService C6 is assigned for determination, which particular bets can be offered.
Electronic means R2 of the customer, such as the customer's remote control, comprises buttons for selecting one of the offered payment options after confirmation of the order.
