Abstract
Description
また、本発明の他の一局面は、正極、負極、及び正極と負極との間に介在するように配置されたセパレータを備えた電極群と、非水電解液と、を備えたリチウムイオン電池であって、正極及び負極の少なくとも一方が上記リチウムイオン二次電池用電極であるリチウムイオン二次電池である。
図1は、本実施形態のリチウムイオン二次電池1の構成を模式的に示す縦断面図である。図2は、図1に示すリチウムイオン二次電池1に含まれる負極12の構成を模式的に示す縦断面図である。
リチウムイオン伝導層13は、主として非水電解液で膨潤されたリチウムイオン伝導性ゲルを含有する層である。
これにより、リチウムイオン二次電池1の負荷特性を高水準に維持しつつ、リチウムイオン二次電池1の安全性をさらに高めることができる。
負極集電体30には、銅、銅合金、ステンレス鋼、ニッケル等からなる金属箔を使用できる。これらの中でも、銅箔が好ましい。負極集電体30の厚みは特に限定されないが、好ましくは5μm~50μmである。
負極合剤スラリーは、負極活物質32及び結着剤を溶媒と混合することにより調製できる。
また、負極活物質32及び結着剤と混合する溶媒としては、例えば、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン、テトラヒドロフラン、ジメチルホルムアミド等の有機溶媒、水等を使用できる。
リチウムイオン伝導層13に含まれるリチウムイオン伝導性ゲルは、リチウムイオン伝導性、接着性及び電気絶縁性を有している。接着性は、絶縁性金属酸化物粒子、正極活物質及び負極活物質32に対する接着性である。
まず、溶液調製工程が実施される。溶液調製工程では、膨潤性樹脂成分を有機溶媒に溶解し、膨潤性樹脂溶液を調製する。
含浸工程で用いられる非水電解液としては、リチウム塩と非水溶媒とを含有する一般的な非水電解液を使用できる。
鎖状カーボネート類としては、ジメチルカーボネート、ジエチルカーボネート、エチルメチルカーボネート、ジプロピルカーボネート等が挙げられる。
脂肪族カルボン酸エステル類としては、ギ酸メチル、酢酸メチル、プロピオン酸メチル、プロピオン酸エチル等が挙げられる。
鎖状エーテル類としては、1,2-ジメトキシエタン、1,2-ジエトキシエタン、エトキシメトキシエタン、エチルエーテル、トリメトキシメタン等が挙げられる。
環状エーテル類としては、テトラヒドロフラン、2-メチルテトラヒドロフラン、テトラヒドロフラン誘導体等が挙げられる。
まず、スラリー調製工程が実施される。スラリー調製工程では、絶縁性金属酸化物粒子と結着剤と有機溶媒とを混合してスラリーを調製する。
正極集電体には、アルミニウム、アルミニウム合金、ステンレス鋼、チタン等からなる金属箔を使用できる。これらの中でも、アルミニウム箔及びアルミニウム合金箔が好ましい。正極集電体の厚みは特に限定されないが、好ましくは10μm~30μmである。
遷移金属元素としては、Sc、Y、Mn、Fe、Co、Ni、Cu、Cr等が挙げられる。遷移金属元素の中では、Mn、Co、Ni等が好ましい。異種元素としては、Na、Mg、Zn、Al、Pb、Sb、B等が挙げられる。異種元素の中では、Mg、Al等が好ましい。遷移金属元素及び異種元素は、それぞれ、1種を単独で使用でき又は2種以上を組み合わせて使用できる。
まず、正極リード20の一端を正極11に接続し、他端を正極端子24に接続する。正極端子24は封口板25により支持されている。負極リード21の一端を負極12に接続し、他端を負極端子になる電池ケース26の内底面に接続する。
(実施例1)
(1)正極の作製
コバルト酸リチウム3kg、PVDFの12質量%NMP溶液(商品名:PVDF#1320、(株)クレハ製)1kg、アセチレンブラック90g及び適量のNMPを双腕式練合機で攪拌し、正極合剤スラリーを調製した。このスラリーを厚み15μmのアルミニウム箔からなる正極集電体の両面に塗布し、得られた塗膜を乾燥し、更に総厚が175μmとなるように圧延した。これを幅56mm、長さ600mmの寸法に裁断し、正極を作製した。正極の正極集電体が露出する部分にアルミニウム製リードの一端を接続した。
人造黒鉛3kg、スチレン-ブタジエンゴム粒子の40質量%水性分散液(商品名:BM-400B、日本ゼオン(株)製)75g、カルボキシメチルセルロース30g及び適量の水を双腕式練合機で攪拌し、負極合剤スラリーを調製した。このスラリーを厚み10μmの銅箔からなる負極集電体の両面に塗布し、得られた塗膜を乾燥し、総厚が180μmとなるように圧延した。これを幅57.5mm、長さ650mmの寸法に裁断し、負極を作製した。負極の負極集電体が露出する部分にニッケル製リードの一端を接続した。
VDF-HFP共重合体(商品名:#8500、(株)クレハ製)の3質量%ジメチルカーボネート溶液を、負極活物質層表面にアプリケータを用いて塗布し、乾燥し、膨潤性樹脂層を形成した。膨潤性樹脂層の厚みは2μmであった。
メディアン径0.3μmのアルミナ粒子970g、変性ポリアクリロニトリルゴムの8質量%NMP溶液(商品名:BM-720H、日本ゼオン(株)製)375g及び適量のNMPを双腕式練合機で攪拌し、多孔質耐熱層用スラリーを調製した。このスラリーを前記(3)で形成された膨潤性樹脂層表面に塗布し、120℃の真空減圧下で10時間乾燥し、多孔質耐熱層を形成した。多孔質耐熱層の厚みは4μmであった。
正極と、負極活物質層表面に膨潤性樹脂層及び多孔質耐熱層をこの順番で形成した負極とを、これらの間に、厚み16μmのポリエチレン製微多孔質フィルムからなるセパレータを介在させて捲回し、電極群を作製した。この電極群の長手方向両端に上部絶縁板及び下部絶縁板を装着した後、有底円筒型の電池ケース(直径18mm、高さ65mm、内径17.85mm)に挿入した。アルミニウム製リード及びニッケル製リードの他端をそれぞれ正極端子の下部及び電池ケースの内底面に接続した。
リチウムイオン伝導層を形成せず、負極表面に直接多孔質耐熱層を形成する以外は、実施例1と同様にして、リチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。
リチウムイオン伝導層のみを形成し、多孔質耐熱層を形成しない以外は、実施例1と同様にして、リチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。
膨潤性樹脂層の形成において、VDF-HFP共重合体(#8500)の3質量%ジメチルカーボネート溶液に代えて、VDF-HFP共重合体(#8500)及びメディアン径0.3μmのアルミナ粒子をジメチルカーボネートに溶解及び分散させて得られるスラリー(VDF-HFP共重合体(#8500)の含有割合:3質量%、アルミナ粒子の含有割合:6質量%)を使用し、且つ、多孔質耐熱層を形成しない以外は、実施例1と同様にして、リチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。
負極活物質層表面に多孔質耐熱層を形成し、多孔質耐熱層表面にリチウムイオン伝導層を形成する以外は、実施例1と同様にして、リチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。
実施例1及び比較例1~4で得られたリチウムイオン二次電池における、リチウムイオン伝導層及び多孔質耐熱層の構成を表1に示す。
実施例1及び比較例1~4で得られたリチウムイオン二次電池について、次に示す釘刺し試験及び充放電試験を行い、安全性及び負荷特性を評価した。
各電池に対して、以下の充電条件で、定電流充電及びそれに続く定電圧充電を行った。そして、20℃環境下で、充電状態の電池の側面から、直径2.7mmの鉄釘を5mm/秒の速度で2mmの深さまで突き刺し、内部短絡を発生させた。その際の電池の温度を、釘刺し位置から離れた電池の側面に配置した熱電対で測定した。30秒後の到達温度を表2に示す。

各電池に対して、20℃環境下にて、下記に示す充放電条件で、定電流充電、定電圧充電及び定電流放電をこの順番で実施し、0.2C放電時の放電容量を求めた。

これに対し、多孔質耐熱層のみが形成された比較例1の電池は、電池表面温度が比較的低いものの、負荷特性の低下が大きいことがわかる。リチウムイオン伝導層のみが形成された比較例2の電池は、負荷特性の低下が少ないものの、電池表面温度が100℃を上回り、内部短絡に対する安全性が低いことがわかる。

- 集電体と、前記集電体表面に積層されて、リチウムイオンを吸蔵及び放出可能な電極活物質を含む電極活物質層と、前記電極活物質層の表面に積層されて、非水電解液で膨潤されたリチウムイオン伝導性ゲルを含有するリチウムイオン伝導層と、前記リチウムイオン伝導層の表面に積層されて、絶縁性金属酸化物粒子を含有する多孔質耐熱層と、を備えたリチウムイオン二次電池用電極。
- 前記リチウムイオン伝導性ゲルが、前記非水電解液で膨潤されたフッ素樹脂である請求項1に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池用電極。

- 前記リチウムイオン伝導層の厚みが0.1μm~3μmの範囲である請求項2に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池用電極。
- 前記多孔質耐熱層は、前記絶縁性金属酸化物粒子100質量部に対し、結着剤0.5質量部~10質量部を含有する請求項1に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池用電極。
- 前記絶縁性金属酸化物粒子が、アルミナ、シリカ、チタニア、ジルコニア、マグネシア及びイットリアよりなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1種の金属酸化物粒子である請求項6に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池用電極。
- 前記絶縁性金属酸化物粒子が、アルミナ粒子である請求項6に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池用電極。
- 前記多孔質耐熱層の厚みが1μm~20μmの範囲である請求項6に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池用電極。
- 正極、負極、及び前記正極と前記負極との間に介在するように配置されたセパレータを備えた電極群と、非水電解液と、を備えたリチウムイオン二次電池であって、
前記正極及び前記負極の少なくとも一方が、請求項1に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池用電極であるリチウムイオン二次電池。 - 前記電極群が、前記正極と前記負極とを、これらの間に前記セパレータを介在させて捲回して作製された捲回型電極群である請求項10に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池。
