Abstract

 発明により提供される偏波無依存導波型光干渉回路の一実施形態は、各々基板上に作製された、二つの結合器(722,724)および該結合器を連結する二本のアーム導波路(706,708)を備えたマッハツェンダ干渉計回路(700)であって、水平偏波の光を垂直偏波の光に変換し、垂直偏波の光を水平偏波の光に変換する偏波回転器(732)が、二本のアーム導波路の各々の光路長を二分する溝に設けられており、二本のアーム導波路の各々について光信号の伝搬方向に向かって複屈折を線積分した値の差を使用光波長で割った値が、2m-0.2から2m+0.2(mはゼロを含む整数)となるように、二本のアーム導波路の少なくとも一方に部分的にレーザ照射等を施して複屈折が調整されている。
