Abstract
Disclosed are a novel compound (organic electroluminescent material), an organic EL device containing the novel compound and having high external quantum efficiency and long life, an illuminating device and a display device. The novel compound (organic electroluminescent material) is characterized by containing at least one compound containing a partial structure represented by the following general formula (1). (In the formula, R1-R4 each represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent, and at least one of R1 and R2 represents a substituent having a formula weight of not less than100 and having a fused ring containing at least one nitrogen atom as a partial structure; n represents an integer of 0-4; Q represents an atomic group necessary for forming an aromatic hydrocarbon ring; and M represents a transition metal.)
