Abstract

　中心電極母材の先端に接合した貴金属チップの長寸化を図りつつ着火性向上と耐久性向上とを両立し得る新たなスパークプラグを提供する。 中心電極は、テーパ形状の電極母材台座と、貴金属チップの成分と電極母材台座の成分とが溶融した溶融部を介して電極母材台座に接合された貴金属チップとを有する。この状態において、溶融部と貴金属チップとのチップ側境界の断面積Ｓ１と、溶融部と電極母材台座との母材側境界の断面積Ｓ２とについては、Ｓ１＜Ｓ２の関係式を満たす。また、電極母材台座の基部における断面積Ｓ３については、（Ｓ３−Ｓ２）／Ｄが５≦（Ｓ３−Ｓ２）／Ｄ≦５０の関係式を満たす。Ｄは母材側境界から基部までの軸線方向の最短距離である。
