Description

Description
[title of invention]
MUFFLER OF A EXHAUST SYSTEM
[Technical field]
The present invention regards to a silencer for automobiles, architectural and other mechanical facilities, especially for automobi les.
[Background art]
The silencer is composed of a resonant room and its wall through which the exhaust gas passes. This is to remove the noise generated when an exhaust valve opens by offsetting the sound wave progressing to the right direction with the reflected sound wave progressing to the reverse direction in the silencer.
However, some automobile users, who intend to improve the output and fuel ratio by the smooth exhaust, strongly wish to replace the muffler with a tuned one where the inside diameter of exhaust pipe is increased and the elements generating the exhaust resistance are removed.
However, as such a tuned muffler is basically a fully opened pipe except its circumference is wiped by the noise-absorbing material, it has a disadvantage that the exhaust noise is too exceedingly strong to use in normal .
Because of this reason, most automobile drivers avoid using a tuned muffler and the government prohibits the tuning work of muffler, unless the exhaust noise falls below a certain level. In other word, most of existing silencers have the problem that for smooth exhaust the silence cannot be secured, and for perfect silence the smooth exhaust is hardly secured. Furthermore, in order to attain the smooth exhaust and the distinguished silence at the same time, the volume of conventional silencer becomes very large and demands large space and high cost. In particular, large sized cargo automobiles and turbo charger vehicles demand the maximized exhaust, but, in order to satisfy this requirement, the silencer must be very large; otherwise, the effect of silence cannot be expected. As an example, large sized trucks are equipped with a silencer of huge size almost equivalent to the oil tank. It requires a high consumption in space and in cost.
[Disclosure of invention]
[Technical issue]
This invention is suggested to solve the problem of existing technologies. It provides the silencer with a natural and smooth exhaustion as well as an excellent removal of exhaust noise. Thus, it can fully satisfy the exhausting amount required by the engine or other industrial facilities even with a small volume, and can save the space and the cost a lot. It can give the vehicle designers a freedom to choose the space for the silencer. Most of all, the main purpose of this silencer is to facilitate the exhaustion enough to enhance the output of engine and to save the fuel considerably.
[Technical solution]
To achieve the above purpose, the silencer of this design is installed on the exhaust system of the mechanical structure. On its one end the inlet for the exhaust gas is formed, ant on the other end the pipe- type body is formed for exhaust outlet. In the direction from the inlet to outlet, multiple noise absorption guides are situated inside the body of the silencer consecutively at regular intervals. The noise absorption guide has a hollow form, of which the inlet is situated to the inlet of the body and the outlet is to the outlet of the body. The circumference of the above outlet is combined with the inside surface of the body. The surface connecting the circumferences of above inlet and outlet is tilted to get farther from the inner surface of the body while it goes from the outlet to the inlet. In addition to the noise absorption guide unit, there is a screw element that was formed by twisting a plate. This screw element passes through the inlet and the outlet of noise absorption guide unit and is fixed on the inlet circumference of the above noise absorption guides. The both ends of the above body are tapered to form the diminished pipes. It is desirable to include the flanges more that are to insert to the outer part of the diminished pipes. Hereafter, a concrete working example of this design will be explained in detail with the attached drawings:
Figure 1 is a schematic view showing an exhaust system for automobile where a silencer of the present invention is installed.
A catalyst converter (300) is connected by an exhaust manifoId(IOO) of engine and engine pipe(200), catalyst converter(300) and silencer(500)(muffler) are connected by an intermediate pipe (400), and a si lencer(500) and resonator (700) are connected by axel pipe(600).
Figure 2 through 4 show a silencer of the present invention.
The silencer is composed of a body(lθ), screw element(30), noise absorption guide(20) and flange(14).
The body(lθ) is a pipe of which both ends forms an inlet(11) and an exhaust out let (12), respectively. Both ends of the body have a smaller diameter than other parts, and on the outer side is combined the flange(14) for the connection to other parts.
The screw member(30) is, as illustrated in Figure 2, an element which has a twisted shape by twisting a long flat plate while fixing its both ends. Such a screw element (30) is installed with in a body (10) along with a body (10).
The noise absorption guide(20) is a nozzle-type element. As shown in
Fig.2, several noise absorption guides(20) are installed inside the body(lθ) consecutively at regular intervals. As shown in Fig.3, the noise absorption guide (20) is combined on the inside wall of body(lθ) and the outer rim of screw element(30) respectively, residing between the inside wall of body(lθ) and the outer rim of screw element (30).
The surface connecting the inlet of noise absorption guide part(20) where the exhaust gas is coming into and its outlet is sloped to be closer to the wall of body(lθ) while it goes from the inlet (21) to the out let(22) of the noise absorption guide(20).
The functions of the silencer that is composed of above components are as follows:
If the exhaust gas comes in through the inlet (11) of the body(lθ), the screw element (30) makes the exhaust gas a strong whirl to pass through the body fast and smoothly. With this, a large amount of mixed air can quickly come into the engine to enhance its output. Moreover, it accomplishes nearly the complete combustion and improves the mileage. Meanwhile, the sound wave of exhaust noise comes into the body(lθ) and progresses straight. When it passes through the screw element (30), the sound is blocked and refracted by the twisted surface of the screw element(30) and the refracted sound wave is reflected on the tapered surface and returned to the source direction. The returned wave makes the offsetting interference with the incoming wave to be destroyed or naturally disappear in the space between the wall of body(lθ) and the tapered surface of noise absorption guide(20). In this way, the noise is removed.
In above explanation, this invention was described only with an example. It is clear that, on the basis of above example, diverse revisions and adjustments can be made within the range of this invention by the practical user. Of course, this kind of revision or adjustment also falls within the range of this patent claim.
[Advantageous effect]
As described above, this invention has many advantages. Through the twisted screw element installed in it, it induces the natural exhaustion of the gas. Moreover, with the screw element and the washer-type noise absorption guides that are protruded slantingly around the screw element, it removes the noises. Thus, it has nearly no exhaust pressure enough to enhance the mileage and to reduce the loss of output, minimizing the noises. It size is a little bit larger than the conventional muffler. So, it can be freely installed on any place of the vehicle when the vehicle is designed. With a small size, it is also light weighted. Thus, it can reduce the total weight of the vehicle, as well as many costs related with it.
