Description

IMPROVED BLADE FOR WOOD PLANING MACHINES AND SIMILAR EQUIPMENT
D E S C R I P T I O N
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The invention, as shown by the present description, refers to an improved blade for wood planing machines and similar equipment, which gives a series of substantial advantages and innovative characteristics that will be described in detail hereafter, and that suppose an important improvement to what is already known in this field.
More specifically, the object of the invention consists of a blade, of the type that is correctly held by the blade holder and is used in wood planing machines, moulding machines or milling cutters for polishing or threading the surfaces of some materials, especially wood, which presents a series of improvements relating to its configuration and structure which enable the use of four blades or cutting edges, noticeably increasing its durability, which as a consequence, represents an important and advantageous saving in cost for the user.
AREA OF APPLICATION
The area of application of the present invention is that of the industry dedicated to the manufacture of tools, and especially industrial blades, for the planing of wood and other materials.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION At present, and as reference to the state of the art, it needs to be mentioned that the blades of the type referred to here are known for requiring to be sharpened or replaced with relative frequency due to the wear they suffer during the function they undertake, which supposes a series of disadvantages for the performance of the machine, since substitution supposes higher costs to bear in mind, and the sharpening, when this is possible, takes considerable time.
The applicant has further knowledge of the existence of a type of blade for wood planing machines and similar equipment, i.e. of the type dealt with here, that has double sided blades or cutting edges, improving functionality with regard to conventional blades, since it allows, the first to be inverted, once it has worn down and, to continue working with the cutting edge on the opposite side without any problems.
Nevertheless, this blade, once both cutting edges have been worn down, has to be replaced as well, a circumstance that the present invention intends to improve by the creation of a blade with a noticeably prolonged lifespan, with a marked increase in respect to conventional or known blades until now.
It is necessary to indicate, furthermore that, the applicant declares not to know of the existence of any blade for wood planing machines and similar equipment that presents similar technical, structural and constitutive characteristics similar to those outlined in the present invention, which has the objective of correcting the aforementioned problems, as already mentioned.
EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION
Specifically, the blade, which conventionally is connected radially (generally in a number higher than two, four being the number most widely used) to the blade holder of the planing machine or similar equipment, thereby joined to an attachment which is connected by the use of screws and with the help of a wedge which, due to centrifugal force caused by the blade holder turning while the machine is functioning thereby keeping it in place, is configured in its characterised form as a regular shaped body whose lengthways section is totally symmetric in both its vertical and horizontal axes, has lower and upper flat bases from which each narrowing side determines the sharp ends. Said end sections constituting the four blades or cutting edges of the blade.
The above mentioned particular shape, which the blade of the invention presents, to be suitable for the cutting and therefore for the functioning of the machine, allowing the variation of its positioning in order to take advantage of four cutting edges or blades that it fortunately contains, means that the blade is held in the blade holder at a negative angle of approximately 20°, which differentiates it substantially from the conventional placement of known blades, since these are placed always at a positive angle.
This way, the blade of the invention, after its first edge has worn down, allows its continued use by means of the horizontal variation of its position to use its second edge and the vertical variation to use its third edge and again horizontally to use the fourth and last edge, lengthening its lifespan notably and consequently allowing for important savings, both in time and in costs for the user of the machine.
Logically the order of variation of the different positions of the blade for the use of its four edges is totally irrelevant.
The new improved blade for planing machines and similar equipment represents, therefore, an innovative range of structural and constitutive characteristics not known for such use until now, reasons that in conjunction with its practicality of use, provide it with sufficient foundation to obtain the right of exclusivity hereby requested.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
To complement the description being undertaken and in order to facilitate better understanding of the characteristics of the invention, the present description is accompanied as an integral part of the description by a set of figures, whereby with illustrative and not limitative character the following has been represented:
Figure number 1.- Shows a cross section of the improved blade for wood planing machines and similar equipment object of the invention, correctly located in the blade holder, in which the particular configuration can be seen as well as the particular position that it adopts inside together with the wedge and the fixing attachment.
Figure number 2.- Shows a detailed view of the set represented in figure 1.
Figure number 3.- Shows a perspective view of the improved blade for wood planing machines and similar equipment according to the invention, in which its geometric configuration and its structure are clearly visible.
Figures 4 and 5.- Show respective perspective views of the wedge and of the attachment which function in conjunction to hold the blade in the blade holder of the machine, in which the configuration can be seen.
PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION According to the aforementioned figures, and in agreement with the adopted numeration, an example of possible, though not exclusive preferential embodiment, of the improved blade for wood planing machines and similar equipment can be observed, which comprises the parts indicated and described in detail below.
Therefore, as is seen in the above mentioned figures, and making particular reference to figure 1 , the blade (1) in question radially joins to (in the case represented in number of four) the blade holder (2) of the wood planing machine or similar equipment, and is connected to an attachment (3) by means of screws and which, in conjunction with a wedge (4) that exercises pressure due to a centrifugal force caused by turning of the blade holder (2) during operation, keeps it held in place, as is seen in detail A of figure 2.
In figure 3, the particular shape of the blade (1) can be seen in detail, which is configured as a body of regular profile whose crossway section with both vertical and horizontal axes which are totally symmetrical, presents lower (5) and upper (6) flat bases perpendicular to their vertical axes, from which the respective narrowing sides (7) and (8) determine the sharp edges. Said sharp edges comprising the four cutting ends or blades (9), (10), (11) and (12) that characterise the new blade.
It is necessary to indicate that this particular shape of the blade (1), to be suitable for the cutting and therefore for the operation of the machine, allowing for variation of its positioning in order that each one of the four cutting edges (9), (10), (11) and (12) can be used, meaning the blade (1), as can be seen in figures 1 and 2, is placed in the blade holder (2) forming a negative angle of approximately 20° with regard to its axes. Finally, in figures four and five the configuration adopted by the wedge (4) can be observed, which is configured as a body of regular profile whose crossway section adopts a quadrilateral configuration, and the attachment (3), which like the blade (1) and the wedge (4) is configured as a body of regular profile and like these are placed radially in the blade holder (2) of the machine, presenting two openings (13) on its upper part, suitable for the screwing/ unscrewing on the blade holder (2), and whose crossway section adopts a flat configuration at the lower part (14), concave at the upper part (15), vertical on its right side (16), and oblique on its left side (17), inclined in coincidence with the angle that must be adopted by the blade (1) in order for the cut to be effective, having a protuberance (18) suitable to fit in each inlet (19) foreseen in the centre on both sides of the blade (1) and designed to assure it is held in place.
In this way, the blade (1), after the first edge (9) has worn down, allows its further use by means of the horizontal variation of its position to use the second edge (10), and fortunately the vertical variation to use a third edge (11) and again the horizontal one to use a fourth and last edge (12), notably lengthening its useful lifespan.
Sufficiently describing the nature of the present invention, as well as the way of putting it into practice, it is not considered necessary to make a more extensive explanation in order that any expert in this area will understand its scope and the advantages that can be derived from it, making known that, within reason the invention could be applied in other applications which differ in detail from that indicated as the example, being able to be substituted the details, accessory elements, or materials described for other technical equivalents, and which will obtain the same degree of protection, provided that they do not alter, change, or modify its fundamental principle in any way.
