Description

VEHICLE SEAT TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a vehicle seat. More specifically, the present invention relates to a seat of the type comprising a seat portion; a connecting device connecting the seat portion to a frame of the vehicle; a seatback hinged to the seat portion to rotate, with respect to the seat portion, about a substantially horizontal hinge axis; and a locking device for locking the seatback in a given angular position about the hinge axis. BACKGROUND ART
The seatback locking device being interposed between the seat portion and the seatback, known seats of the above type have several drawbacks, mainly due to the relatively complex design and high cost of the hinge between the seat portion and the seatback, the seatback locking device, and the device connecting the seat portion to the vehicle frame, all of which must be designed to withstand the relatively severe forces to which the seat is subjected in the event of sharp acceleration and/or braking and/or impact. DISCLOSURE QF INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a vehicle seat designed to eliminate the aforementioned drawbacks, and which is cheap and easy to produce. According to the present invention, there is provided a vehicle seat as claimed in Claim 1.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
A non-limiting embodiment of the present invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figures 1 and 2 show schematic side views of a preferred embodiment of the vehicle seat according to the present invention in two different operating positions;
Figures 3, 4 and 5 show schematic side views of a detail of the Figure 1 and 2 seat in three different operating positions.
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
With reference to Figures 1 and 2, number 1 indicates as a whole a seat for a known vehicle not shown.
Seat 1 comprises a seat portion 2; and a seatback 3 hinged to seat portion 2 to rotate, with respect to seat portion 2 and as described in detail below, about a substantially horizontal hinge axis 4. Seat portion 2 is connected to a fixed frame 5 of the vehicle (not shown) with the interposition of a connecting device 6 designed to allow seat portion 2 to move, with respect to frame 5, in a substantially vertical direction 7 crosswise to axis 4.
Device 6 comprises two parallel crank mechanisms 8, each in turn comprising a crank 9 hinged to frame 5 to rotate, with respect to frame 5, about a hinge axis 10 parallel to axis 4, and a connecting rod 11 extending between two axes of rotation 12, 13, of which axis 12 is the axis about which connecting rod 11 rotates with respect to seat portion 2, and axis 13 the axis about which connecting rod 11 rotates with respect to a skid 14 mounted to slide along a runner 15 fixed to. frame 5.
Crank 9 and connecting rod 11 are hinged to each other at respective intermediate points to oscillate with respect to each other about a hinge axis 16 parallel to axes 12, 13. Crank mechanisms 8 are movable under the control of an actuating device 17 comprising a rocker arm 18, which is mounted to rotate about axis 16 and has a first arm 19 hinged to a free end of a crank 20 extending between two hinge axes 21, 22 parallel to axes 12 and 13, and of which axis 21 is the axis about which crank 20 rotates with respect to rocker arm 18, and axis 22 the axis about which crank 20 rotates with respect to frame 5.
Rocker arm 18 has a second arm 23 hinged to a free end of a screw 24 connected by a screw-nut screw coupling to an output shaft (not shown) of an electric motor 25. Motor 25 is hinged to a slide 26, to which is also hinged a free end of crank 9, which therefore extends between axis 10 and an axis 27 about which crank 9 rotates with respect to slide 26.
Slide 26 is mounted to slide along a runner 28, which is hinged to seat portion 2 to oscillate, with respect to seat portion 2, about a hinge axis 29 parallel to axis 27, and forms part of a positioning device 30 for selectively controlling the angular position of seat portion 2 about axis 12.
As shown in Figures 1 to 5, device 30 also comprises a crank mechanism 31, in turn comprising two cranks 32, 33, of which crank 32 is hinged to seat portion 2 to rotate, with respect to seat portion 2, about a hinge axis 34 parallel to axis 29, and crank 33 is hinged to runner 28 to rotate, with respect to runner 28, about a hinge axis 35 parallel to axis 34. The free ends of cranks 32 and 33 are hinged to a sleeve 36 to allow cranks 32 and 33 to rotate with respect to each other about an axis of rotation 37 parallel to axes 34 and 35.
Sleeve 36 is connected by a screw-nut screw coupling to an adjusting screw 38, which extends through a supporting bracket 39 projecting downwards from seat portion 2, and rotation of which about its longitudinal axis 40 moves sleeve 36 along axis 40.
The angular position of seatback 3 about axis 4 is controlled by a locking device 41 interposed between seatback 3 and frame 5, and comprising, in the example shown, a crank 42, which is of fixed length and extends between two axes of rotation 43, 44, of which axis 43 is the axis about which crank 42 rotates with respect to seatback 3, and axis 44 the axis about which crank 42 rotates with respect to frame 5.
Device 6 connecting seat portion 2 to frame 5, and device 41 locking seatback 3 about axis 4, are interconnected so that, in use, operation of electric motor 25 moves crank mechanism 8 and therefore seat 1, in direction 7, between a raised position (Figure 1) and a lowered position (Figure 2), and also moves crank 42 about axis 44, thus locking seatback 3. The position of seat portion 2 about axis 12 is controlled independently of the movement of seat 1 in direction 7, by means of adjusting screw 38, which, when
rotated about its axis 40, moves crank mechanism 31 and so swings seat portion 2 into different positions about axis 12 (Figures 3, 4, 5) .
In a variation not shown, crank 42 is replaced by a crank of variable length, which provides for selectively controlling the angular position of seatback 3 about axis 4 independently of the position of seat 1 in direction 7. Locking device 41 being interposed between seatback 3 and frame 5, the forces to which seat 1 is subjected in the event of relatively sharp acceleration and/or braking and/or impact are mainly transmitted to frame 5 of the vehicle (not shown) , so that both the hinge between seat portion 2 and seatback 3, and device 6 connecting seat portion 2 to frame 5, can be made lighter.
