Abstract

537,098. Seats. SLEIGH, H. L., CHESTON, A. S., and OLDHAM, F. A. M. March 13, 1940, No. 4669. [Class 52 (ii)] A seat suitable for omnibus drivers is vertically adjusted while occupied by opening or closing pairs of crossed links 3, 4 pivoted scissors fashion at 5 and actuated by an arm 23 which is carried by a rock shaft 24 and connected by a link 21 with a flattened cross bar 18 rigidly connected to the slidible ends of one pair of links 4. Tension springs 30 assist the opening of the links when raising the seat. The cross bar 18 and a similar bar 14 on the other links 3 carry rollers 19, 38 running on tracks 20, 15 in the seat frame 1 and base frame 2 respectively. The rock-shaft may be moved by a hand lever 26 carrying a slidable spring detent 32 engageable with an arcuate rack 34 to hold the seat rigidly in any adjusted position. The actuating arm may be connected with a cross bar joining the lower forward ends of one of the pairs of links.
