- the present invention relates to automatic cycle storage systems, intended in particular for the temporary provision of cycles to the public. More particularly, the invention relates to an automatic cycle storage system comprising: a plurality of cycles (for example bicycles) each carrying a locking device and an electronic circuit, at least one cycle storage area intended to receive cycles when they are not in use, and at least one control device adapted to selectively authorize the borrowing of the cycles in the storage area.
- a cycle storage system can be used for example to make cycles available to the public, subject to identification of the cycle borrower and possibly payment of a rental from a control terminal.
- Document EP-A-0 875 867 describes an example of such a cycle storage system, in which the cycles are locked by cooperation between their blocking devices and fixed locking stations arranged on the public road.
- This known cycle storage system has the particular disadvantage of cluttering the public highway with cycle storage stations. This drawback becomes prohibitive if one wishes to be able to store a large number of cycles in the same storage area, since the size of the system then becomes very large (see for example FIG. 2 of the aforementioned document).

- a cycle storage system of the kind in question is characterized in that the blocking device for each cycle is movable between, on the one hand, a blocking position where said blocking device blocks at least one movable member of the cycle to prevent normal use of this cycle, and on the other hand, an unlocked position where said blocking device does not interfere with said movable member and allows normal use of the cycle, in that the control device comprises a first short-range wireless communication interface, having a range substantially limited to the storage area, in that each cycle comprises a second short-range wireless communication interface suitable for communicating with the first communication interface, this second communication interface being connected to the electronic circuit of the cycle, in that the cycle includes a locking device electric controlled by the electronic circuit of the cycle and adapted to lock the blocking device in the blocking position, and in that the control device is adapted to control the blocking device of each cycle via the first communication interface and the second communication interface of said cycle.
