Abstract

A metallic seamless pipe containing, as a main component, at least one type of metal selected from a group formed of those metals having melting points of 1600 °C or higher, characterized by having a porosity (ratio of open pores area not passing through a pipe wall in wall thickness direction to the pipe external surface area, where the total pipe external surface area is 100%) of 0.3 to 25%, the pipe being capable of being reduced in wall thickness and inside diameter thereof, and used suitably for the sealing member of an arc tube (for example, ceramic arc tube) of a high-pressure discharge lamp such as metal halide lamp excellent in mechanical strength and air-tightness.
