Abstract

The folding headrest according to the invention is designed mainly for back seats of a vehicle and it can assume active or passive position. It includes a cushion (1), which is connected with seat back using a pair of brackets (3). An upper rotation pin (5) is mounted in the upper part of the bracket (3) and in a frame (2) of a cushion (1) while a lower rotation pin (5') is mounted in the lower part of the bracket (4) and in a unit for fixing the bracket (4). A unit for active position blocking (8) is assigned to the bracket (3). Upon folding the headrest, the cushion (1) rotates around the upper rotation pin (5) and the lower part of the bracket (3) around the lower rotation pin (5').

Description

Folding car seat headrest
The object of the invention is a folding headrest of a car seat, especially back seat. There are various types of car seat headrests. Some of them can gradually change their height in relation to a car seat from their lowest position to the top one by shifting cushion- supporting bars in sleeves provided with elastic blocking elements mating with positioning holes produced on the supporting bars. Others can be situated only in two positions: a low and a top one. The latter headrests are usually designed for back car seats and they should have their upper edge situated possibly low, while in their passive position, in order not to obstruct a view through the back window. However, in order to fulfil their primary function, which is to stop the backward movement of seat occupant's head in case of a car accident, the headrests should enable their adjustment to a level of height of an average person's head. Such headrests include a lever supporting structure, which makes it possible to lift and lower the headrest.
The purpose of the invention is to develop a headrest that can be easily shifted from active to passive position and which does not obstruct backward visibility while in its passive position and does not require disassembling before folding the back of a back seat in case of increasing luggage boot capacity.
The essence of the invention is the structure of the headrest equipped with a couple of brackets where a lower part of each of them is mounted with a fixing unit in a seat back. The upper part of the bracket is situated inside the headrest cushion. The upper rotation pin is mounted in the upper part of the bracket and in the cushion frame while the lower rotation pin is mounted in the lower part of the bracket and in the unit for fixing the bracket to the seat back. Rotation pins' axes of rotation are perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. A unit for blocking the active position, including a push-button-controlled slidable blocking element, elastically supported, is assigned to at least one bracket. The blocking element of the blocking unit is, in a blocking position, partially situated in the upper and lower part of the bracket and partially in the suitable recess produced in the cushion frame and in the unit for fixing the bracket in the seat back.
Due to providing each bracket with two rotation pins, the headrest cushion can assume the passive position adhering to the seat back with its side that supports a passenger's head, and thus, a rotation angle of the cushion's movement is close to 180°. The object of the invention has been more precisely defined in an example product in a drawing, where fig. 1 presents a side section of the headrest and fig. 2 shows a partial view and a part section of the headrest along B-B line of fig. 1.
The folding headrest according to the invention consists of a cushion 1, which has inside a frame 2 and a pair of brackets 3, which are mounted in the seat back using the bracket-fixing unit 4. The upper rotation pin 5 is mounted in the upper part of each bracket 3 and in the frame 2 of the cushion J^ while the lower rotation pin 5 is mounted in the lower part of the bracket 3 and in the bracket-fixing unit 4. The upper and the lower part of the bracket 3 are produced as separate components and in the upper part of the bracket 4 there is a permanently mounted reinforcing bar 6, which in the lower part of the bracket 4 is fixed with a blocking spring 7. A unit of upper position blocking 8 that includes a push-button that relocates the blocking element 9 supported with a spring 10 is assigned to one of the brackets 3. The blocking element 9 is situated partially in the upper and the lower part of the bracket 3 and partially in a recess produced in the frame 2 of the cushion 1 and in the bracket fixing unit 4. The headrest is operated as follows:
Upon pushing the push-button of the upper position blocking 8 and overcoming resistance of the spring 10, the blocking is released by moving the blocking element 9 towards the headrest symmetry axis and the blocking element 9_leaves recesses in the frame 2 and in the bracket fixing unit 4. Simultaneously, a force applied to the cushion 1 from the back causes a rotation of the cushion 1 in relation to the upper rotation pin 5 and rotation of the bracket 4 in relation to the lower rotation pin 5\ As a result, the cushion 1 is shifted into its passive position and its side that contacts passenger's head becomes adherent to the seat back. In order to relocate the cushion 1 into its active position, it is necessary to apply to it a force directed towards the back of a vehicle and move the cushion 1 to the active position, where it will be automatically blocked under the influence of the spring 10 effecting the blocking element 9, since, in the active position, the recess in the frame 2 and in the bracket fixting unit 4 will be placed opposite the blocking element 9.
