Abstract

L'invention concerne un système permettant de fournir un service vidéo sur demande, un accès internet à large bande et d'autres services à large bande sur des systèmes T-carrier comprenant un multiplexeur « cherry picker » (sélection aléatoire) d'extraction à l'extrémité avant. Le multiplexeur d'extraction reçoit des demandes en amont et des paquets vidéo MPEG ou d'autres paquets vidéo comprimés sélectionnés, des paquets IP et d'autres types de paquets de données afin de satisfaire les demandes ou pour émettre en aval une programmation « poussée ». Le flux aval peut être DSL (ligne d'abonné numérique) ou HFC (fibre optique coaxiale hybride). Chaque client possède un modem câble, un modem DSL ou une passerelle qui établit une interface entre de nombreuses sources de signaux et un réseau local auquel peuvent être reliés des décodeurs, des téléphones numériques, des ordinateurs personnels, des télécopieurs numériques, des caméras vidéo, des magnétoscopes numériques etc. Chaque passerelle peut coupler le réseau local à une ligne DSL ou à une HFC par un modem câble ou une antenne parabolique via un émetteur-récepteur satellite. L'invention concerne également une interface de RTPC et d'antenne TV traditionnelle.
