Abstract

A volume control device (10) for controlling speaker volume has two input terminals (16, 18) for receiving a speaker drive input and two output terminals (20, 22) for supplying a conditioned output. A resistor arrangement provides a first variable resistor (30) in series between one input and one output and a second variable resistor (40) across the input terminals. An adjustment element (50) adjusts simultaneously the first and second variable resistors to provide a selectable resistance in series with the output and to maintain a desired impedance across the input. The device provides independent volume control in a multi-speaker system.
