Abstract

The invention relates to a method of producing powdered hydroxyalkyl starch ethers with hydroxyl numbers of between 350 and 600 and molar substitution rates of 1 to 2, by alkoxylation of alkalized carbohydrates with a propylene-ethylene oxide mixture. The products prepared according to said method are especially suitable for use as spray adjuvants. The above method is carried out in the presence of preferably alkaline catalysts. The total quantity of a C3-/C4-alkylene oxide component, preferably propylene oxide, required for reaction with the starch is reacted together with between 10 and 60 % by weight, in relation to the total alkene oxide quantity, ethylene oxide at temperatures of between 40 and 80 °C.
