Abstract

La polymérisation d'oléfines cycliques à cycle contraint a lieu en présence d'un catalyseur à un élément ou à deux éléments qui est stable à l'air et à l'humidité et qui comprend un composé contenant un métal de transition. Ledit catalyseur à un élément contenant un métal de transition est choisi dans le groupe constitué (a) de composés de la formule (L1) (L2)Q dans laquelle Q représente Mo ou W; L1 représente un à six ligands CO (carbonyle); L2 représente de zéro à cinq ligands, dont chacun est un composé ou une unité non ionique d'un polymère qui peut être le même ou différent, chacun apportant deux, quatre ou six électrons au métal et est différent de L1, la somme des électrons périphériques de Q et des électrons apportés par les ligands L1 et L2 étant égale à 18, (b) d'au moins un des sels cationiques organométalliques contenant du ruthénium et de l'osmium, ayant au moins un ligand polyène et (c) du composé [Ir(RO¿2?CHC=CHCO2R)2Cl]2 dans lequel chaque R est indépendamment de l'hydrogène ou de l'alkyle inférieur (C1 à C4), à condition que l'état d'oxydation du métal soit de l'ordre de +3 à 0 et qu'il n'y ait pas de catalyseur contenant des liaisons C-halogène. Le catalyseur à deux éléments comprend (a) un catalyseur contenant un métal de transition, à condition que l'état d'oxydation du métal de transition soit de l'ordre de +3 à 0 et (b) un cocatalyseur choisi dans le groupe constitué (i) d'alkynes silyle ou terminaux, (ii) d'organosilanes contenant au moins un des groupes α et β, (iii) de sels ou de composés oxydants contenant une liaison double d'un atome d'oxygène à un atome de non-oxygène et (iv) des alkylènes contenant des hétéroatomes. Ladite composition polymérisée est utile pour fabriquer des articles moulés, des élastomères, des supports diélectriques, des matériaux ionophores ou biologiquement actifs, des matériaux composites et autres.
