Abstract

Se describe una composición de polímero compuesta del producto de reacción de un monómero hidrofílico y un monómero acíclico. El monómero hidrofílico preferido es hidroxietilmetacrilamida (HMA), y el monómero acíclico preferido es metacrilato de hidroxietilo (HDMA). Los componentes monoméricos se pueden polimerizar en un molde de poliestireno para hacer lentes de contacto, y cuando se hinchan con agua son adecuados para usarse como lentes de contacto de hidrogel blandos. Las composiciones preferidas también incluyen un monómero zwitteriónico, tal como sulfobetaína, y un agente entrelazador, tal como dimetacrilato de etilenglicol (EGDMA).
