Abstract

A new variety of Chrysanthemum plant having white flowers with pale yellow centers.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is directed to a new and distinct variety of Chrysanthemum botanically classified as Dendranthema grandiflora. The varietal denomination of the new Chrysanthemum is `White Giant Time.`
The female and male parents of the new variety are unpatented, undistributed seedlings identified as P60-92 and P81-14, respectively. The new variety has been asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in Ventura County, Calif. and the distinguishing characteristics are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
`White Giant Time` is a spray type pot forcing Chrysanthemum plant variety producing white flowers with pale yellow centers, and capable of being grown commercially in a greenhouse.
Comparision With `Powerhouse` BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ILLUSTRATIONS
The accompanying photographs show typical specimens of the new variety with colors being as nearly true as possible with illustrations of this type. One illustration shows `White Giant Time` grown as a pinched pot mum and the other illustration is a close-up of the flowers. The plant in the photograph, and described herein, is a spray type potted chrysanthemum. `White Giant Time` can be commercially produced as either a spray type plant or disbud plant.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANT
The following description of the new variety is of specimens grown in a greenhouse in Ventura County, Calif. in the month of October. `White Giant Time` has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in the environment such as temperature, light intensity, day length and cultural conditions. Color values provided in the description are from The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Charts (R.H.S.C.C.), unless otherwise indicated.
Plants of the new variety have been grown successfully under temperature conditions averaging about 65° F. at night and about 75°-85° F. during the day under light conditions of about 5,000-6,000 foot candles. The plants respond well to use of growth retardant, such as one B9 treatment at about 2000 ppm and one B9 treatment at about 1000 ppm. To produce a commercial product the plants may be pinched twice with the center bud removed. It has been observed that the shelf life of `White Giant Time` is about 18 days with the response time of about 9 weeks.
