Abstract
A new plant variety of Chrysanthemum having pure white flowers with green centers.
Description
The present invention is directed to a new and distinct variety of Chrysanthemum botanically classified as Dendranthema grandiflora. The varietal denomination of the new chrysanthemum is `Frosty Time.`
The female and male parents of the new varieties are undistributed, unpatented seedlings identified as P17-10 and P111-19, respectively. The new variety has been asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in Ventura County, Calif. and the distinguishing characteristics are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
`Frosty Time` is a spray type pot forcing chrysanthemum plant variety producing pure white flowers on plants capable of being grown commercially in a greenhouse.
The accompanying photographs show typical specimens of the new variety with colors being as nearly true as possible with illustrations of this type. One illustration shows `Frosty Time` grown as a pinched pot mum and the other illustration is a close-up of the flowers.
The following description of the new variety is of specimens grown in a greenhouse in Oxnard, Ventura County, Calif. in the month of October. `Frosty Time` has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in the environment such as temperature, light intensity, day length and cultural conditions. Color values provided in the description are from The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Charts (R.H.S.C.C.), unless otherwise indicated.
Plants of the new variety has been grown successfully under temperature conditions averaging about 65° F. at night and about 75°-85° F. during the day under light conditions of about 5,000-6,000 foot candles. The plants respond well to use of growth retardant, such as one B-9 treatment at about 2000 ppm. To produce a commercial product the plants may be pinched once with the center bud removed. It has been observed that the shelf life of `Frosty Time` is about 21 days with the response time of about 8 weeks.
Habit: Spreading.
Height: About 20 cm after one treatment with growth retardant as described above.
