ELIHU DWIGHT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Design No. 3,217, dated November 3, 1868.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIHU DWIGHT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for the Body or Centre of Stair Oil-0loth; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The figure is a view of aportion of the body or centre of a piece of stair oil-cloth, showing my improved design.
My invention has for its object to furnish an irnproved design for the body or centre of stair oil-cloth; and it consists in the design or pattern for the body or centre of stair oil-cloths, hereinafter more fully described.
A represents a portion of the body or centre of a piece of stair oil-cloth, the ground-color of which may be black, or any other desired color.
The body of the stair cloth is crossed with angular or zigzag lines a', as shown in the gure. These lines should be of diierent colors, alternated with each other, in such a way as to produce a pleasing e'eot.
After the lines a have been continued for a short distance, they are interrupted, and again continued, with their angles in the opposite direction, thus forming diamond-shaped or square spaces a?, according to the inclination of said lines.
In the centres of the spaces a are formed two or more concentric stars, a, of different colors.
The blank spaces in the angles of the diamondshaped or square spaces are relieved by dots or small colored figures, as shown in the drawing.
Upon the sides ofthe body or centre, A, ofthe oilcloth, may be formed borders of any desired pattern, which, however, should be of such a pattern as to accord with the design for the body or centre of said oil-cloth.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design or pattern for the body or centre of stair oil-cloths, herein shown and described.
The above specication of my invention signed by me, this 28th day of September, 1868.
ELIHU DWIGHT. Witnesses:
