UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAV STROHIIAKER, OF WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGXOR TO THE \VATROUS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 84.0.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Design No. 27,165, dated June 8, 1897.
Application filed April 24, 1897- Berial No. 633,308. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Gosrav STROHHAKER, of lVallingford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for the Handles of Spoons, Forks, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-- Figure l, a face view of a handle for spoons, &c., embodying my design; Fig. 2, a reverse view of the same.
My invention relates to a design for the handles of spoons, forks, and like articles of table-service; and the design consists in the configuration and ornamentation of the handle, as herein shown and described.
At a point about midway of the handle it expands gradually, then contracts abruptly, and then again gradually expands to form the upper portion thereof, which is finished by a crowning-shaped tip.
Upon the face of the handle is a series of scroll ornaments a, expanding with the contour of the middle portion thereof, as at 12. Rising from these scrolls is a narrow scrolllike border 0 upon either side of the handle,
merging together at the tip in a slightly-elaborated series of scrolls d, conforming to the contour of the crowning-shaped tip. These narrow scrolls inclose a plain central panel 6.
Upon the reverse of the handle is avery narrow scroll-border f, conforming to the contour of the handle and terminatingin a scrolltip g, surmounted by a shelllike ornament 71. The portion of the handle from its center expansion to its juncture with the bowl has a slightly-raised elongated scroll ornamentation 1', all as shown in the accompanying illustration.
I claim 1. The design for handles for spoons and similar articles as herein shown and described.
2. In the design for handles of spoons and similar articles, the obverse, as herein shown and described.
3. In the design for handles of spoons and similar articles, the reverse, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAV STROIIIIAKER.
