LINFORD J. DAVIS, OF B ATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN.
POULTRY-MARKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Feb. 16, 1909.
Application filed November 21, 1907. Serial No. 403.167.
To all'whom 'it may concern:
Be t known that I, LINFORD J. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Battle Creek, county of Calhoun, State of Michigan, .,-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Poultry-ltlarkers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in poultry marl ers.
The main'object of this invention is to rovide an improved poultry marker which is very economical to produce, quickly aplied, and one which is very secure and not ikely to catch or engage objects when in use.
Ifurther objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure embod ing the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which,
Referring to the drawing, the encirclin band 1 is provided with a head 2 at one end adapted to receive a suitable identifying character, as the numeral 25 shown in the accompanying drawing. The band 1 and head 2 are formed'integral and are made of soft or flexible metal, so that they may be readily formed. The head is provided with a transverse'slot 3 toward lts outer end adapted to receive the end of the encircling band, as clearly appears from the drawing, the slot being of substantially the same length as the width of the band to prevent transverse movement of the band therein.
On the outer end of the head is a tongue 4 formed integral therewith, the tongue being adapted to fold over the end of the band when the band is inserted throu h the slot and folded outwardly toward t e tongue, as shown in the drawin The tongue is folded down and clampe upon the endof the band and retains it securely. I thus secure an attaching means which is not likely to engage some exterior object and be turned up or loosened or entangle the fowl when in use.
My improved marl er is very economical to produce, as it may be formed with a very simple die from sheet metal with very little waste material, is stated, is very secure.
Having thusdescrib ed my invention, what I claim as new and desire" to secure by Letters Patent, is: v
' A marker comprising an encircling band; a head at one end of said band adapted to receive an identifying having a transverse slot toward its outer end to receive the end of the encircling band, the length of" said slot corresponding substantially to the width of said band, and a tongue-hi e central extension on the outer end of said head adapted to be folded inwardly and lon itudinally over and cover the end of the and after it has been inserted throu h the slot from the inside of the head an folded outwardly toward said tongue, the said tongklxle being substantially the same width as t e band, .whereby the tongue is secured in said slot and its end covered and clamped down, said band, head and tongue being formed-integrally offiexible sheet metal.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
