' To all whom it may conceive:
into the ground by screwing it thereinto, this action serving to force the pin throu h and between roots, small stones andthe e so that after the pin has once been ositioned in the ground it becomes impossl le to vwithdraw it therefrom except by unscrewing it.
.whereby a tent rope A further object is to provide a tent pin so shaped as to surround a core of dirt so that it becomes impossible to withdraw the in unless this core is likewise pulled outward? Astill further object is to provide means can be quickly attached to the pin.
With these and other objects in view the vention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompany-'in drawings is shown the preferred form of t e inventlon.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation ofthe pin and showing the same in use. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through the'pin.
y Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates a wire or rod of steel or other suitable material, the same being coiled for the greater part of its length so as to form ahelix terminating in a prong 2 at one end thereof and its other end merges into a Alongitudinal stem 3. This stem merges into a laterally extending elongated eye or loop 4 constituting the head thereof, the terminal 5 of the wlre being bent or Wra ped around the stem so as to prevent the ead from pulling open when subjected to strains,
said Wrapped ortion extending beyond the inneren of t e eve. `It will be noted that those portions of the head close to and at opcated at 6 while the opposite portion of the eye is straight and constitutes a longitudinal brace for the eye. In using the device herein described the pointed terminal 2 thereof-is forced into the ground and said pin screwed downward, thus orcing the point between roots, stones, etc. and causing it to be firml anchored inasmuch as it not only winds etween obstructions in the path thereof but also surrounds a core of dirt as clearly indicated in the drawings. After the pin has been forced into the ground a sufficient distance a tent rope such stem and wrapped ortion and under the head, opposite ortlons vof the loo bein seated upon the owed portions of t e hea [as indicated in the drawings. The itch of the helix is such that the in can not e withdrawn from the ground y any ordinary direct pull thereon and in' order to remove it it is necessary to unscrew it. v
What is claimed is:
1. A tent pin formed in a single length of wire havin a helix terminating at one end in a prong an stem, said stem merging into a laterally extending elongated eye having bowed portions a'. opposite sides of the stem and formed by the inner portions of the eye, one terminal prevent spreading of t e eye, said wrapped portion of the Wire extending beyond the 1nner end of the eye and constituting a seat for the middle portion of a rope loop and the bowedportions constituting seats for the side portions of said loop.
2. A tent-pin formed in a single length of Wire havin a helix terminating at one end 1n a prong an at the `other end in 'a longitudinal stem,A said pin merging into. a laterally extending elongated eye having bowed portions at opposite sides of the stem and formed by the inner ortions ofthe eye, one terminal of the wire ein Wrapped about the stem to Vprevent sprea ing of the eye, said wra ped posite sides of the stem are bowed as indi-'-v at its other end in a longitudinal of the wire being wrap ed about the stem to` as indicated at 7 maybe looped over the portions of the Wire extending beyon the i inner end of theeye and constituting a seat y t www -for the midle portion of a rope loop, and the my own, I have hereto exd my signature bowed porsionclonstititing seats foi tllnle side in the presence of two witnesses. portions o sai oop t at portion o t e e e r op osite the bowedportions being straig t HENRY HAWLEY' 5 an constituting e longitudinal brace for the Witnesses:
