Description

A. A. szAso.
Cotton-Bale Ties.
I No.l55,344. Patented Sept. 22, l874.
' ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER A. SZABO, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-BALE TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,344, dated September 22, 1874; application filed August 26, 1874.
CASE B.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER A. SZABO, of Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Cotton-Tie; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figures 1 and 2 exhibit my invention in side, and Fig. 3 in end, elevation. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section The invention relates to and consists in peculiar means for tying the ends of bale-wires, the same being hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
A represents the bale wire or band, whose ends a I pass, respectively, through the transverse holes b b of block B, and then bend them forward and down into grooves b. The ends a may then, if preferred, be twisted around the body of wire, while the strain will bring the parts a a also in the groove 1).
Fig. 2 exhibits a modification, which is made reversible by extending the grooves I) through the whole length of block. Both ends may be passed through a single enlarged hole upon the same principle, but it is not considered as being so desirable.
Figs. 3 and 4. illustrate a modification, wherein the ends a a are passed through two transverse longitudinally-aligned holes, 0 0, down into the grooves, and then, if desired, twisted about the body A.
This tie has been found, on experiment, never to slip, and yet to be readily and quickly applicable to the bale.
I am aware that fastening the ends of a bale-tie wire by means of an intermediate block is old 5 but the wire or band in that case is either passed along a longitudinal groove and turned back into a hole, or each end is passed through a longitudinal hole in block and then wrapped around the body of wire.
What I claim is The combination, with block B, having two transverse holes, b, and grooves b, of the wire A, having ends a 0 passed through said holes, and then bent down as well as forward into the grooves, as and for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 22d day of August, 1874.
