WILSON B. ENGLE, OF SUGAR GROVE, OHIO.
STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 17', 1908.
Application filed April 15, 1908. Serial No. 427,257.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILSON B. Enema, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sugar Grove, in the county of Fairfield and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to stoves, and relates particularly to gas and oil stoves, and has for its object the provision of means for facilitating the spreading or circulating of heat.
Another object of this invention is the provision of means for facilitating the securing of the different parts of the stove together.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the stove. Fig. 2 is a vertical, sectional view of the stove. Fig. 3 is a top view, partly in section. Fig. at is a modification of the clamping device of the stove.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a bottom or base having legs 2 formed, preferably, integral with said bottom for supporting the stove. Upon the bottom 1 is mounted a cylindrical body portion 3. The body portion 3 carries, on its upper edge, a rim l, which rim is folded upon itself, forming an inwardly-extending flange 5, so that the inner edge of flange 5 rests against the outer surface of the body portion 3, to prevent lateral displacement of the drum 6. The drum 6 is clamped upon the annular rim by means of bolt 7 passing through the same and feet 8 of braces 9, which braces 9 form a support or strengthening means for the inner edges of the openings 10 and 11 of the drum. The lower inner edge of the horizontal portion of the drum 6 is clamped between the feet 8 of the braces 9 and the upper portion of the rim 4 by means of the bolts passing through the feet 8 and rim 4 and secured to the bottom of the stove; the bolts or rods are each provided, at their ends, with nuts 12 and 13. The top of the drum is rovided with an opening 11; the edge 0 said opening is faced with rim 14:. The rim 14 is secured to the drum by means of bolts 15 passing through said rim and the edge of the upper portion of drum 6 and through the angularly-disposed portion 16 of braces 9. The opening in the upper portion of the drum 6 is closed by means of a lid or cover 17 which fits upon the rim 14. A burner 18 is positioned near the bottom of the stove, and is supported upon the bottom by means of a clamping member 19, said clamping member fitting closely around the downwardly-extendlng pipe of the burner. The clamping member 19 is secured to the under surface of the bottom of the stove by means of bolts 21 passing through said bottom. A pipe 22 leading to the burner 18 passes through one of the legs of the stove so as to support or hold the same in place. The bottom of the stove is provided with perforations 23 for facilitating the escape of heat.
The body of the stove is provided with a door 2st to allow access to the interior of the stove for examining the burner or cleaning the same. The body is also provided with bulged portions 25 and openings 26. The bulged portions 25 increase the heating surface of the body, and the apertures 26 faoilitate the escape of heat, as well as ornament the body.
Referring to Fig. 4, the inner portion of the drum 6 is held between the feet 8 of the braces 9 and the rim I, said rim being bent downwardly and curved outwardly upon the outer surface of the body portion 3. It will be seen that the downwardly-bent por tion 1 of rim l will prevent any lateral displacement of the rim and also of the drum 6, as said drum is clamped to said rim by means of bolts 7 passing through said rim and feet 8 of braces 9.
It is to be noted that I have provided means for clamping the inner edge of the bottom of the drum between members constituting a clamp device, to wit; the annular bottom and the feet of the braces; the vertical bolts or rods 7 constitute fastening means connected at their lower end to the bottom or base of the stove, and at their upper ends to the rim or feet of the braces, and this connecting means is spaced from the side or inner wall of the body and from the inner body of the drum.
I have provided a very simple and inexpensive structure for assembling the parts of a stove and, furthermore, by reason of my peculiarly constructed stove, the same can be quickly assembled or disassembled, and, when assembled, the parts will be securely fastened against displacement, owing to the peculiar structure, hereinbefore described.
It is to be noted that the body is provided the outer wall of the body for preventing lateral displacement of said rim off the stove, a hollow, cylindrical drum resting upon the upper portion of said rim, bracing means positioned in said drum and engagingthe lower portion thereof, and fastening means extending through the bottom and through the rim and bracing means spaced away from the body of the drum for clamping the drum, bracing means and the rim and securing said bottom, body, rim and drum together.
2. In a stove, the combination with a bottom, of a hollow body positioned upon said bottom, a hollow drum positioned above said body, said drum being provided with an opening in the bottom thereof, a rim interposed between said drum and body, braces positioned in said drum, each brace provided at its lower end with an outwardly-extending foot, the lower end of said foot resting upon the inner edge of the drum, the inner portion of the rim extending beyond the inner edge of the drum, and fastening means positioned beyond the inner edge of the drum and extending through the foot and the inner portion of the rim and engaging the bottom for securing said mentioned parts together.
3. In a stove, the combination with a body, of an annular rim positioned upon said body, said rim provided with an outer portion bent back upon the body thereof, the inner edge of the bent portion engaging the outer wall of the body, a drum resting upon said rim, said. rim extending beyond the inner wall of the body, and means extending through the extended inner portion of the rim and securing the drum upon the rim and the rim and body together.
,' l. In a stove, the combination with a bot-= 5 tom, a body portion resting upon said bottom, said body portion provided with an upper open end, a detachable rim resting upon the upper end of the body and provided with a bent portion extending downwardly and outside of. the body and preventing slidable movement of the rim upon said body, said rim having its inner portion extending beyond the inner wall of the body, a drum positioned upon said rim, said drum being provided with an opening in the bottom thereof, braces positioned in said drum, means securing the upper portion of said braces to the upper portion of said drum, said braces provided with feet partly resting upon the inner portion of the drum contiguous to the edges of said opening, bolts extending through said body, and spaced away from the wall of said body and extending through the inner extending-portion of the rim and through the portions of the braces beyond the inner edge of the drum for clamping the lower portion of the drum between the feet and the rim, and securing all the parts together. I
5. In a stove, the combination with a bottom, a body resting upon said bottom, a detachable rim resting upon the upper end of the body and provided with a substantially U shaped portion overhanging the upper edge of the body and preventing any lateral displacen'ient of said rim, said rim having an inner portion extending beyond the walls of said body, a drum positioned upon said rim, said drum provided with an opening in its upper end, braces positioned in said drum, having their upper angle portions secured to the edge of the opening in the upper portion of the drum by means of bolts passing through said angle portions, the upper edge of said opening and through a rim surrounding said opening, said braces provided with feet clamping the lower portion of the drum between said feet and said detachable rim by means of a bolt or rod passing through said feet and detachable rim, and secured to the base of the stove.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afi ix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILSON B. ENGLE.
