UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS JOSEPH GLERGY AND HENRY MORROW, OF BELT, MONTANA.
CAMP-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 756,330, dated April 5, 1904.
Application filed March 25, 1903- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LOUIS JOSEPH CLERGY and HENRY MoRRow, citizens of the United States, residing at Belt, in the county of Gascade and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camp- Stoves, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved camp-stove which is simple in construction and operation and which may be compactly folded together, so as to be conveniently carried in a very small space, and which is particularly adapted for use in camps, but which may be used wherever devices of this class may be required; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a stove of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of our improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a campstove made according to our invention and in position for use; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the parts of the stove folded together, as when not in use; Fig. 3, alongitudinal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1; Fig. i, a transverse section on the line 4 a of Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 a bottom plan view of part of the sides, and one end of the stove.
In the practice of our invention we provide a stove of the class specified which is of the following construction: A top a is provided having depending side flanges a and corresponding depending end flanges a and this top is provided near one end with an opening having a collar or flange a with which a smoke-pipe may be connected, and in said top are openings a having pivoted covers a and over or in which suitable pots or vessels may be placed for cooking purposes. The stove is also provided with ends 6, which arehinged to the top a at b and adapted to fold inwardly, and one of these ends is provided with an Serial No. 149,440. (No model.)
opening 6 having a pivoted cover or door I), which is also provided with a central opening 6", having a pivoted cover I), and below the opening is secured a catch 6 which is adapted to hold the cover or door 6 in a closed position. The stove is also provided with sides 0, which are hinged to the cover or top a at 0 and are also adapted to fold inwardly, and one of the sides 0 is provided with openings 0 in the bottom portion thereof, and these openings are provided with pivoted doors or covers 0, said doors or covers being pivoted above the openings 0 The sides 0 and the ends 6 are pro vided with inwardly-directed lugs or supports 0?, which may be secured to said sides and ends or formed integrally therewith, as in the case of the openings 0 in which case the top edges of said openings are bent inwardly to form said lugs or projections, and in the case of the hole or opening 5 in the end 6, in which case the bottom edge of said opening is or may be bent inwardly to form the corresponding lug or projection. A central partition 6 is also provided, which is adapted to rest on the lugs or projections d, and the sides 0 are provided at their ends with, inwardly-curved flanges f, forming hooks, and the ends 6 are provided with similar outwardly-curved flanges g, which form hooks adapted to engage with the hooks formed by the flanges f.
When the device is not in use, the stove is turned over and partition 6 is dropped thereinto and the ends I) are first folded over said partition, after which the sides 0 are folded over said ends, and in this operation the entire device assumes the form as shown at 6 When it is desired to use the device, the sides 0 are folded outwardly or opened and the ends bare similarly operated, and the ends of the end portions 6 engage with the ends of the portions 0, as shown in Fig. 5, and when the stove is placed in proper position, as shown in Fig. 1, the partition 6 will drop down into its proper place, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The partition c is also preferably made of sheet metal and is provided with strengthening and stiffening ribs or beads 0 As thus constructed it will be seen that there is a space or chamber h below the partition 6 and a space or chamber [L2 above the said partition, and the space or chamber 7L constitutes a fire-box, while the space or chamber hserves as a warming or heating oven. 1
The entire device is simple in constructio and operation and comparatively inexpensive, and changes in and modifications of the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of our-invention or sacrificing its advantages.
In some cases our improved stove may be used without the central partition 6, in which event the said partition'may be removed and the articles to be cooked will be placed on top of the stove, as hereinbefore described.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A camp-stove comprising a top portion and ends and sides, the ends and sides being hinged to the top portion and being adapted to fold inwardly, said ends and sides being provided with engaging members which operate when said ends and sides are in an upright position, said ends and sides being also provided with interior supports, and a partition adapted to rest on said supports, the top portion being also provided with openings and one of the ends with an opening above said partition and one of the'sides with an opening below said partition, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention we have-signed our names, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 17th day of March, 1903. I
LOUIS JOSEPH CLERGY. HENRY MORROW.
