' designed for attachment to boxes and similar containing vessels and by way of illustration ,fis shown .in connection with a yeast powder box of the ordinary construction in which 5 ldesignates the body of the box, 6 the cover and '7 =the label.
' The attachment consists of a cuttinlr blade 8 preferably stamped or otherwise lorrned from a single piece of metal and. having one end 'thereof'curved or rounded at 9` to conlform to thecurvature of thev interior walls of the cover 6 and Vits opposite endbent downwardly to'lorm an angularly disposed arm 10'wh1ch extends between the cover 6 and the body ofthe receptacle, as shown, the
end ofthe bladeatfthe arm 11 being-bent -letsmly 5 or closure 6, the centero'f the Hat portion of` disposed concentric with aXis of the box so as to germit ee rotation of'said blade without anger of binding against the depending the blade being the 'lon itudina-` flange ol the cover.
tact with theexteriorwall' of the cover 6 when the device is not in usey thereby to prevent catching on an transportation or shipment.
In using the device the blade is positioned in the cover with the ilat bearing surface 13 engaging the' lower face of said cover and with the handle'12 extending at substantially, right angles to the lon itudi'nal plane of the `'box .after which the la el is attached to the body of the box and cover; respectlvely, with the' linger piece bentu' wardly inengagement with the exterior wal Vof 'the cover, vas best l shown in Fig. 1 of the drawlngs.
In order to cut or sever the label -itis` merely'necessaiy to bend the linger piece 12 downwardly-.tothe y osition shown in Fig.
to form a-terminalngfer 'piece 12 .bymeas "of Swhich j the blademay, be -conf v efnienjtly rotated" to :cut or ysever the label. The metal forming the blade 8 is provided Theblade is preferably 'i formed of flexible metal so that the terminal linger piece 12 maybe bent upwardly in conbstruction during 2 of thel drawings an then rotate said finger piece when the cutting edge of the blade will engage and sever'the label so as to permit the ready 'removal-ofthe cover.
In Fig; 6 ofthel drawings there is illustrated a modilied'form of the invention in which the innerend of the blade terminates at the center ofthe cover 6 and is` ivotally connited tlierevwith,l as by a bo t or rivet 14,
the construction and operation of the device being otherwise similar to that shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
The blades may be made in different sizes and shapes and may be used in connection with di'erent styles of containing vessels.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that there is provided an extremely simple, inexpensive and efficient device admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in view.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:A
1. The combination with a receptacle in-` cluding a cover, of a blade having one end ythereof spanning the inner surface of the top in g one end ofthe cover and its opposite end extended downwardly between the cover and body of thereceptacle and provided with a finger piece.
2. The combination with a receptacle having a cover, of a blade extending along the inner surface of the top of the cover and hav- A thereof provided with an arm interposed between the cover and body of the receptacle and provided with a finger-piece.
3. The combination with a receptacle havmg a cover, of a blade'bearing against the walls of the cover and the opposite end thereof extended downwardly between the cover andthe body of the receptacle and provided with a termin al finger piece,
5. The combination with a receptacle having a cover, of a blade formed of flexible ma? terial having one end thereof curved to conform to the interior walls of the cover and bearing against the same and its opposite end extended downwardly between the cover and the body ofthe receptacle and provided `with a terminal finger piece adapted to be bent upwardly in engagement with the exterior wall of the cover, said blade being mounted. for rotation in the cover and disposed concentric therewith.
6. A label cutting attachment for containingvvessels comprising a blade having a flat imperforate body portion one end of which is bent at right angles to the longitudinal plane of the body portion and thence extended laterally to form a terminal angularly disposed finger piece.
7. A label cutting attaclmrent for containing vessels comprising a flat blade formed from a single piece of Tbcndable material having one end thereof bent at substantially right angles to the longitudinal plane of the blade to form a depending arm the terminal of which is extended. laterally at substantially right angles to said arm to produce a finger piece.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as .my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
